Afro Ark is a consortium partner in the Youth Entrepreneurship in Agriculture in Rwanda (YEA-R) Program, funded by the Mastercard Foundation and led by SNV Netherlands Development Organisation. The five-year program aims to create 40,000 dignified and fulfilling work opportunities for youth (70% women, 5% persons with disabilities) in Rwanda’s poultry and horticulture value chains. Through three interlinked pathways; skills buildingmarket linkage, and empowerment. YEA-R equips youth with technical, entrepreneurial, and leadership skills to thrive in the agrifood sector.

This position supports Pathway 3: Empowerment, Voice & Agency, which focuses on gender equality, social inclusion (GESI), and building youth leadership and agency within the agricultural ecosystem.

  • Key Responsibilities

    • Community Mobilization and Engagement
      • Mobilize young women, men, and PWDs into youth groups/cooperatives.
      • Conduct participatory GESI and youth empowerment sessions using tools like “My Voice My Power” and other curricula.
      • Engage community leaders, parents, and other influencers to strengthen support for youth and women in agribusiness.
    • Training and Facilitation
      • Deliver empowerment and leadership training to youth groups.
      • Train GESI Champions and support the transfer of learning within groups.
    • Gender Equality and Social Inclusion
      • Support the implementation of GESI strategies in the SMEs and ensure inclusive practices in all their operations.
      • Organize and facilitate GESI dialogues engaging men, couples, and community gatekeepers.
    • Youth Leadership and Voice
      • Facilitate the identification and training of youth,men and women champions on GESI championship and men engagement.
      • Support youth groups in documenting success stories and participating in youth panels and advocacy forums.
    • Coordination and Reporting
      • Coordinate with local authorities,YAOs, and other program partners.
      • Document and report on activities, success stories, challenges, and lessons learned.
      • Ensure safeguarding standards, gender-sensitive approaches, and data disaggregation in all reports.


  • Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in , Gender Studies, Rural Development, Education, Community Development, or related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in community mobilization, GESI, youth/women empowerment, or related roles.
  • Proven experience in conducting trainings on gender equality, and community facilitation.
  • Familiarity with rural and youth-centered development programming
  • Experience working with women and people with disabilities in inclusive programming.
  • Fluency in Kinyarwanda and working knowledge of English.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work independently and within diverse teams.
  • Willingness to be based in and travel frequently within the assigned district.
  • Desirable Skills

  • Experience with participatory tools and approaches such Human-Centered Design and others.
  • Experience in handling sensitive gender-related issues and safeguarding concerns.

Key Responsibilities

  • Program Leadership & Coordination
      • Provide overall leadership and coordination of Afro Ark’s YEA-R activities across assigned districts.
      • Ensure program implementation is aligned with Afro Ark’s mission, donor requirements, and consortium standards.
      • Supervise and mentor Project Officers and field teams.
      • Represent Afro Ark in consortium, partner, and district-level coordination meetings.


  • Financial Oversight & Compliance
      • Prepare and monitor budgets, expenditure plans, and financial reports for YEA-R activities.
      • Ensure compliance with donor and Afro Ark financial policies, including cost control, documentation, and timely reporting.
      • Work closely with the Finance Officer to track spending against budgets and ensure funds are efficiently utilized.
      • Identify financial risks and recommend mitigation measures.
  • Monitoring, Evaluation & Reporting
      • Oversee project reporting, ensuring quality, accuracy, and compliance with donor requirements.
      • Support data collection, analysis, and integration of gender-disaggregated indicators.
      • Document success stories, challenges, and lessons learned for donor and stakeholder reporting.
  • Capacity Building & Technical Support
      • Guide Project Officers and community facilitators in implementing empowerment, leadership, and GESI activities.
      • Support the delivery of training for youth, women, and persons with disabilities in leadership, entrepreneurship, and advocacy.
      • Promote safeguarding and gender-sensitive approaches in all interventions.
  • Stakeholder & Community Engagement
      • Build and maintain partnerships with district authorities, civil society, and private sector actors.
      • Strengthen collaboration with youth groups, cooperatives, and SMEs.
      • Act as Afro Ark’s focal point in consortium-level strategy and learning platforms.


  • Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree (preferred) or Bachelor’s degree in Project Management, Development Studies, Gender Studies, Agriculture, Business Administration, or related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ progressive experience in project management, preferably in youth/women empowerment, GESI, or agricultural development programs.
  • Proven experience in budgeting, financial management, and donor-funded project reporting.
  • Strong skills in team leadership, coordination, and partnership management.
  • Familiarity with participatory approaches such as Human-Centered Design.
  • Fluency in Kinyarwanda and strong working knowledge of English (French is an added advantage).
  • Willingness to travel frequently to field districts.

INTERNAL & EXTERNAL JOB VACANCY

We are seeking to hire a qualified and dedicated Quality Laboratory Team Leader, reporting to the Technological Controller, Supply Chain.

 

JOB PURPOSE

  • To ensure the operational management of all laboratory (Analytical and Microbiological) and Sensory activities, to support production process control.
  • To ensure support of the laboratory in case of quality issues and NPI projects.





FUNCTIONAL COMPETENCIES

  • The ability to work in accordance with the quality systems in place and HEINEKEN and local procedures, thus contributing to the excellence of the finished product.
  • The ability to maintain a safe optimal laboratory environment and to safely operate and maintain laboratory equipment, ensuring that the basic conditions are in place to facilitate the generation of consistently reliable results.
  • The ability to work in accordance with laboratory methods and operate laboratory equipment to the desired level of control to ensure the generation of consistently reliable analytical results
  • The ability to provide technical and analytical support for the production process in accordance with the HEINEKEN standards and local procedures, thus contributing to the optimizaiton of process control
  • The ability to collect and report reliable data in a timely way and to effectively communicate with the relevant stakeholders in order to facilitate optimal decision making
  • The ability to create and maintain a safe environment for employees, contractors and visitors according to the applicable statutory, HEINEKEN and local regulations

  • The ability to plan resources (people, materials, process, and equipment) to meet Quality Assurance and Quality Control needs with balancing costs





KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

 

SAFETY, FOOD SAFETY AND SUSTAINABILITY

  • Manages the facilities to ensure they are clean and tidy working areas without unnecessary losses of consumables/chemicals, in line with the defined and implemented safety standards and ensures the follow-up of 5S and HACCP standards at the workplace.




QUALITY OF THE PROCESS AND PRODUCT

  • Manages that all the work and activities are done in line with the quality standards (ISO9001, LSS, TPM etc.).
  • Collects and assess all quality data from the analysis activities (Analytical, Microbiological and Sensory) in the brewery.

TPM AND CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT

  • Monitors and supports the TPM way of working.
  • Supports the implementation of the improvement activities.




PROCESS MANAGEMENT

  • Manages all the laboratory processes (in-line and off-line) and executes the agreed plans and strategy.
  • Gives support in case of quality issues and NPI projects.
  • Ensures execution of the requested analyses.

EQUIPMENT MANAGEMENT

  • Monitors if the analysis instruments (in-line and off-line) are managed in desired way (standard working condition).
  • Manages purchasing activities for the laboratory.





MANAGEMENT OF INFORMATION AND REPORTING

  • Collects and processes basic data and makes reports within the scope of the laboratory activities.

Job Announcement 

Position: Driver and Logistics Assistant, Rubavu Office 

Description: 

The Wellspring Foundation for Education is currently working in multiple districts across Rwanda, with an office base in Kigali as well as one in Rubavu, through our dynamic education programs to support teachers, leaders and the school community in the promotion of quality and inclusive education for children. Wellspring is also operating through partnership in southern Uganda, requiring occasional driver support to/from our partner’s base.

Under the oversight of the Logistics Manager (Kigali) the Driver and Logistics Support will work as part of the logistics team to support the implementation of our programs. S/he will provide safe and efficient transport to Wellspring staff and guests while ensuring diligent stewardship and cleanliness of the motor vehicle(s) entrusted to his/her care. S/he will also provide logistics and administrative support to the office whilst not carrying out driving assignments.

The candidate will be an experienced driver, preferably with experience working for an NGO driving in rural areas, and have knowledge and skills for taking care of the mechanics of our vehicles. He/she will be a great team player with a proactive can-do and problem-solving approach, excellent time and task management skills, and will work successfully as part of a fun-loving cross-cultural team. S/He will be proficient in the English language in order to communicate verbally with staff and visitors and in reading/writing to be able to provide logistical and administrative support. S/He will be proficient in basic computer skills including typing, with familiarity with Word, Excel and email.

Reports to: Operation and Logistics Manager (Kigali)

Working closely with: Finance and Compliance Manager, Program Implementation Lead; Trainer and Projects Officers; Education Program Lead; Program Quality & Development Lead , IT & Data Protection Lead; Driver and Facilities Officer, and any casual driver.

Location: Rubavu District in all areas including the most rural – with travel to Kigali or to other Districts when necessary and occasional travel to Uganda.

Key external relationships: Garage, Hotels, Stationery shops and other service providers whenever necessary


Job responsibilities: 

Driving and Vehicles 

  • Provide safe and efficient driving support to Wellspring staff or guests as directed by his or her line manager and in keeping with Wellspring’s Vehicle Use Policy. ● Strictly follow all traffic laws of Rwanda.
  • Conduct all required regular maintenance & document checks on the vehicle(s) you are entrusted to drive.
  • Faithfully keep accurate logbook records of vehicle use.
  • Ensure safe keeping of vehicle keys.
  • Keep the interior of the vehicle clean at all times and ensure the exterior of the vehicle is clean and presentable through regular washing.
  • Ensure all safety and other vehicle equipment is in order.
  • Ensure that drinking water and tissues are available for all staff/ guests you are responsible for transporting.
  • Politely but firmly maintain the security of your assigned vehicle by remaining at your vehicle or within view of your vehicle wherever reasonably possible ● Ensure that all passengers wear seat belts when these are available in the vehicle.
  • Occasionally take Wellspring’s international guests on tours of local areas or provide support for shopping and other activities.


Logistics and Administrative Support 

  • Support in preparation of logistics for workshops and other events. ● Occasionally support in making accommodation or restaurant bookings for staff and visitors.
  • Support the Logistics Manager in preparing Fuel report
  • Support the Logistics Manager to organise transport plan for field ● Support the Logistics Manager to supervise cleaners and security guards ● Photocopying, scanning, typing services whenever necessary ● Organizing delivery of courier or parcel to different geographical areas as required
  • Help in writing up notes from flip charts used in meetings, workshop as required; ● Occasionally obtain information and quotes for procurement processes or support with shopping activities.
  • Carry out any other tasks reasonably commensurate with your role as requested by management or your line manager

Qualifications: 

  • Holder of at least an A Level Diploma or equivalent in any field related to this position (required)
  • Possess a valid driving license with appropriate categories (B is essential). (required)
  • More than 5 years’ experience and skills as driver in all types of terrain (required)

• To coordinate daily farm activities in coordination of the production manager. • To insure all plantings and harvesting are done based on customers order. • To follow up all activities including spraying, irrigation and picking. • To oversee the application of all crop protection products (proper mixing of chemicals. fertilizers… ) according to the guideline given in the trainings provided. • Provide daily firm reports to the Head office as per specified timing sheet. • Coordinate internal farm training provided by the Production Manager. • Insure all farm activities carried out in the firm meet the required customer standards. • The staff may be called upon to do other job depending on the current situation. • Provide all daily data requirement from the farm.\Insure all GAP Standards are maintained as per trainings provided. • Coordinate with the Production Manager on delivery of farm inputs and equipment. • Identify, advise and ensure knowledge and skills transfer to vegetable farmers on vegetables plantation technologies and practices; • Identify, study and recommend improvement of projects for vegetables production; • Facilitate linkages with farmers to support the increase of vegetables production using new technology • Plan, communicate and coordinate production activities; • Conduct training, seminars, workshops and mentoring of vegetables farmers in new production techniques • Provide technical assistance to farmers wishing to improve their vegetables farming and production skills using inter alia, practical training solutions. • Provide monthly report to the supervisor
