Job Description
Carry out routine blood typing on blood samples from collected units.
2. Label blood units designated to be used for transfusion
3. Ensure the proper recording of results before issuing blood in hospital
4. Carryout distribution of blood and blood components to hospitals and clinics
5. Carry out cross-matching tests between donor blood and recipient prior to transfusion
6. Adhere to following SOPs in performing routine activities
7. Carryout daily and preventive maintenance of equipment in Immuno-hematology laboratory.
8. Ensure the cold chain is maintained
9. Execute internal and external quality control tests related to Immuno-hematology
10. Ensure proper use of blood computerized system
11. Participate in the implementation of quality system in their routine activities
12. Ensure safety in the Laboratory
13. Participate in night and day shifts and make shift duty reports
14. Perform any other duties as may be assigned by the Supervisors.
In collaboration with Platelet production and serology technicians:
– Ensures proper storage of Blood and Blood products.
– Ensures that all non-conforming Blood products are quarantined.
– Ensures that all validated Blood units are labeled prior to distribution.
In collaboration with Blood donor mobilization team:
– Shares inventory status for Blood products.
– Shares information and investigates non-conformances related to Blood donation.
– Shares abnormal findings in Immuno-hematology results.
