Keio University provides scholarships to international students so that they can focus on their studies without financial worry.

Scholarship Types

Scholarships are broadly divided into the following: those offered by Keio University, those offered by public organizations such as the Japanese government (Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology) and Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO), and those from scholarship sponsors such as private companies and scholarship foundations.

Internal Scholarships

Keio University provides various benefit-type scholarships that meet the needs of the students and do not require repayment.
The following is a summary of scholarships available to undergraduate and graduate students.

Government Scholarships
(For Both Undergraduate and Graduate Students)

Information regarding scholarships offered by the Japanese government (Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, MEXT) and Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO) can be found here.

This scholarship is provided by the Japanese government (MEXT). It is offered to students with excellent academic grades.

  • Application period: December (period in AY 2019)
  • Number of recipients: 20 students (number in AY 2020)
  • Scholarship amount: ① exemption of tuition fees, ② monthly allowance of 117,000–145,000 yen
  • Scholarship period: up to one year

This scholarship is provided by JASSO. The purpose of this scholarship is to promote the development of educational exchange between foreign countries and Japan, mutual understanding, and peace. It is offered to students with excellent character and academic grades, who furthermore have difficulty continuing their studies due to financial reasons.

  • Application period (planned): April
  • Number of recipients: 185 undergraduate students, 57 graduate students (number in AY 2019)
  • Scholarship amount: 48,000 yen per month
  • Scholarship period: one year (you may reapply)

Private Organization and Local Government Scholarships
(For Both Undergraduate and Graduate Students)

Many organizations, such as incorporated foundations, public interest incorporated foundations, private companies, and prefectural and local governments offer scholarships.
For many scholarships, once you have been selected, you will continue to receive funds until graduation.

Application and Selection for Scholarships

There are some scholarships for which you will need to get a recommendation from the university before you can apply. For others, you can apply directly to the organization without going through the university.
To apply for scholarships, you must go through a scholarship applicant registration process twice a year, at the start of the Spring and Fall Semesters.

How to apply:
International students applying for UIC will be automatically considered as scholarship candidates. Scholarship recipients are to be selected from admitted applicants according to their academic credentials. A scholarship offer letter will be enclosed in the admission packet and sent to the recipients individually. Scholarship recipients are required to maintain a certain level of GPA each semester to stay eligible for the scholarship in the following semester.

Qualification: Currently-enrolled UIC students
Types: full, half, or one-third of the tuition per semester
How to apply:
All UIC students are automatically considered as scholarship candidates. Each semester’s scholarship standard may vary; For more information or applying scholarship, please check the announcement.

Need-based Scholarship
Qualification: Currently-enrolled UIC students
Types: full, half, or one-third of the tuition per semester
How to apply:
Freedom scholarship will be announced at the end of each semester for UIC students in need of financial aid. Applicants must submit an application form and required documents, which will be reviewed by the UIC office. If necessary, applicants will be called in for individual interviews with the scholarship committee.

Other scholarship opportunities
There are various scholarship programs, which are not offered on a regular basis, but may be available during any given semester or academic year. When such an opportunity arises, the UIC office will announce it to all eligible UIC students.

This is to inform the general public that online application for admission into the 73rd Regular Course of the Nigerian Defense Academy (NDA), Kaduna will be available from Sat 23 January 2021 to Saturday 24 April 2021. Position Summary

A full-time post-doctoral fellow will provide assessment, treatment, psychoeducation, and consultation services to maltreated children under the age of 6 years and their families involved with the child welfare system. The fellow should be able to clinically conceptualize a wide variety of cases involving young children and their caregivers with challenging behaviors, attachment and/or relationship problems, developmental delays, and/or other mental health problems and make appropriate referrals.

A fellow may also carry cases involving older children and their caregivers. The fellow will also provide consultation, supervision, and training to multidisciplinary professionals. Training and supervision will be provided throughout the year. Opportunities for teaching and training may be available.

Education Qualification

  • Successful completion of an APA-accredited internship by the start of the fellowship.
  • PhD or PsyD in Clinical or Counseling Psychology from an APA-accredited program.

Requirements

  • Psychological assessment skills
  • Interdisciplinary consultation and collaboration skills
  • Individual, dyadic and family therapy skills.
  • Completion of APA-accredited psychology internship in infant mental health.
  • Experience in a clinical setting working with children and adults (e.g., mental health clinic, practicum placement, etc.).

In response to the Ministry of Education’s decision to change the national school calendar from January-October to October-July, Bridge2Rwanda has adjusted the timeline of the Bridge2Rwanda Scholars Program for 2021.

We will now be accepting applications from Senior 6 students between February 1 – April 18. Interviews will be conducted at the end of the school year in early August. Students selected to become B2R Scholars will begin a shortened, 11-month program in August. Because of the abbreviated program, only students with exceptional English proficiency will qualify and be considered to join the program this year. We look forward to meeting our eleventh cohort of Bridge2Rwanda Scholars in 2021!

About the Bridge2Rwanda Scholars Program

The mission of the Bridge2Rwanda Scholars Program is to build a fellowship of globally-educated young leaders in Africa with the capacity to transform their communities and accelerate growth in their country. The program selects the most talented high school graduates, helps them earn scholarships to study abroad, and equips them to launch their careers back in Africa. Since 2011, Bridge2Rwanda has helped 262 African students from Rwanda, Burundi, the Democratic Republic of Congo and South Sudan earn over $64 million in scholarships to 84 of the top universities around the world.

Function:

1.    HISTORICAL BACKGROUND OF THE PROGRAM

Handicap International Federation (HI) Rwanda which operates under the name Humanity & Inclusion is an independent and impartial International Organization that was founded in 1982 and operates in Rwanda since 1994. It envisages a Rwanda society that is inclusive, supportive, and respectful of the rights of vulnerable people and especially persons with disabilities. Working alongside persons with disabilities and other vulnerable people, it commits itself to meet their essential needs, improving their living condition, and promoting respect for their dignity and their fundamental rights. It does so by supporting the policies and initiatives of public authorities and civil society to advance the rights of vulnerable people, particularly persons with disabilities across Rwanda.

In partnership with UNHCR and the Ministry in charge of emergency management (MINEMA) formerly known as the Ministry of Disaster Management and Refugee affairs (MIDIMAR), HI launched its operations in Refugee camps of Rwanda since 2015, responding to the specific needs of persons with disabilities, elderly people and persons with mental health and psychosocial issues in urban areas, Congolese and Burundian Refugee camps of Rwanda. In Sept 2019, HI extended its psychosocial support interventions in Gashora camp that host evacuees from Libya under the Emergency transit mechanism (ETM).

In this Framework, HI seeks to recruit a logistics officer that will support the project team to Implement a UNHCR-funded project titled “Strengthening Inclusion and participation of persons with specific needs in humanitarian interventions in Rwanda” which aims to improve the living condition of the aforementioned target beneficiaries. S/he will support the project team to deliver timely response to needs of persons with specific needs in Urban areas: Kigali and Huye,6 Refugee camps: Nyabiheke, Gihembe, Kiziba, Kigeme, Mugombwa, Mahama and Gashora ETM. Under direct supervision of the Deputy Project Manager, the Project Logistics Officer will be responsible for weekly collection of purchase requests from the project field staff and submit them to the logistics office. The incumbent will be in charge of making the project supply plan and regular follow-up of: the purchase requisitions, purchase orders, invoices, delivery note and ensure that all payments are made in accordance with HI procedures.

2.    Specific Roles and key responsibilities 

  • Prepare the project supply plan and make regular tracking of: the purchase requisitions, purchase orders, invoices, delivery note and ensure that all payments are made in accordance with HI procedures.
  • Participate in the process of procuring the project supplies and ensure timely delivery of all purchased items to the intended beneficiaries
  • Proper tracking of all items dispatched in each location and make sure the distribution lists are submitted to the logistics office
  •  Monitor the procurement plan and submit monthly, quarterly and annual reports to the Deputy Project manager
  • Safekeeping of electronic copies of the distribution lists submitted by the project staff
  •  update the database of the project beneficiaries on monthly basis
  • Participate in annual evaluation of project suppliers
  • Compile cash requests (DT) and weekly travel plans submitted by the project team and submit them to the Deputy Project manager
  • Actively Participate in Capacity building of the project staff on safekeeping of the project logistics including: computers, modems, tablettes, telephones etc.
  • Participate in the process of organizing project events, e.g., coordination meeting, seminars, workshops, awareness raising campaigns, training, etc.
  • Ensure that community mobilizers receive their monthly payments without delay
  • Perform other relevant responsibilities and tasks assigned by his/her line manager
  • Ensure logistics requirements take disability and gender-specific needs into consideration
  • Provide technical support to the existing self-help groups and VSLAs initiated by persons with specific needs and other refugee community members in order to increase their saving and business management skills.

The Gender and Protection Officer (GPO) will be responsible of mainstreaming protection issues into activities of the project entitled “Health, Education & Livelihoods Africa: A Sustainable Inclusion Approach (HELASIA)” funded by the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (Norad).

The HELASIA project is jointly managed with the current Community-Based Rehabilitation (CBR)-Inclusive Local development (ILD) project that is implementing inclusive local development approach. Thus, under the direct supervision of CBR-ILD and HELASIA Projects Manager, the Gender and Protection Officer (GPO) will provide required expertise in ensuring that gender and protection issues are addressed across the project cycle in accordance with (1) the HI’s Disability, Gender and Age, (2) protection of beneficiaries from sexual exploitation and abuse as well as (3) Child protection institutional policies. The role will include mainly (1) supporting the analysis of gaps in terms of Women Rights and Gender equality cross-cutting theme, (2) support the programme in providing capacity building to HI Rwanda programme staff, implementing partners, and other key actors, (3) providing technical support mainstreaming gender and protection in project activities and (4) contribute to planning, monitoring and evaluation of the implementation of gender and protection-related policies across the project and HI Rwanda programme. The post holder will act in direct interaction with other projects team members, especially the Disability Inclusion Officers, the Policy Analysis Officer, and the implementing partner (National Union of Disabilities’ Organisations of Rwanda -NUDOR) staff. She/he will be based in Kigali with regular field visits in Nyamasheke and Rutsiro districts and other locations depending of the needs.

The Gender and Protection Officer (GPO) will be technically supported mainly by the HELASIA Regional Technical Coordinator and other staff within HI Rwanda Program.

DESCRIPTION OF ASSIGNMENTS

The Gender and Protection Officer’s profile is expected to meet the following tasks:

  • Supporting project team promoting women’s rights and gender equality issues and concern during field activities

Fédération Handicap International, which implements its programs under its operational, branding name of “Humanity & Inclusion” (HI), is seeking a Physical Rehabilitation Technical Advisor for an anticipated five-year USAID-funded Inclusive Nutrition and Early Childhood Development (INECD) activity in Rwanda.

The proposed project aims to improve maternal, infant, child, and adolescent nutrition, development, functional, and health outcomes. It will address child development gaps, specifically unmet physical rehabilitation and assistive technology (rehab/AT), and social inclusion needs for infants, children and adolescent and adults with disabilities. The activity will focus on community-level service delivery, community-health facility linkages and district level capacity development, as well as address issues of inclusion and participation, including access to programs and services for children and adolescent with disabilities, in line with Government of Rwanda (GoR) priorities.

The Physical Rehabilitation Technical Advisor reports to project Manager and will provide technical leadership in the development of physical rehabilitation, including assistive technology, and health system approaches.

DESCRIPTION OF ASSIGNMENTS

The Physical Rehabilitation Technical Advisor will be entitled to performing the following activities:

  • Support the development and strengthening of community-based rehabilitation services for mothers, infants, children and adults
  • Work at the district and national level to support policy, planning, budgeting, coordination, implementation and monitoring of rehab/AT services
  • Develop tools and training for frontline workers (facility and community based) to support children with disabilities and their families to participate in ECD/nutrition services

Organizational Setting and Work Relationships

The Associate Protection Officer reports to the Protection Officer or the Senior Protection Officer. Duties and Qualifications
Office and the direct supervision Head of Field Office based at Nyamata, the Supervising Engineer shall supervise the execution of the Contract for the construction of Proposed storey structure accommodation and office block in Gashora; construction of a Women Opportunity Centre; construction of Gashora Clinic; construction of a police post; construction of a livelihood training centre; Construction of a Child Friendly Space and other task assigned during the period. The Supervising/Construction Engineer shall in general carry out such duties as issuing instructions, decisions, certificates, and orders as are required for the satisfactory execution of the Contract.

The Supervising/Construction Engineer will be empowered to:
¿ Carry out tests of samples of materials and supplies and verify workmanship, as he/she may consider necessary at the cost of the Contractor in order to ensure their compliance with the relevant specifications and standards of the Contract.

¿ Measure quantities of work completed and approve or reject invoices submitted by the Contractor for such quantities.

¿ Issue and sign the Certificates of Completion of Works and Defects Liability Period.

¿ Ensure that contractors follow and adhere to security measures on site especially for big project such as accommodation, office block; the contractors need to temporary build a corrugated iron sheet fencing and site management required during the implementation of the project.

¿ Carry out daily/weekly measured works for the new construction works and document or file; also, daily/weekly instructions documented on site logbooks.

¿ Share weekly/monthly technical progress/site minutes with Associate Physical Site Planner and Head of Field Office on the progress of construction works.

¿ At field level, assist the UNHCR Associate Physical Site Planner or Head of Field Office to implement clear guidance and standards for shelter, including minimum standards to meet basic and essential needs.

¿ Assist in verifying any BoQs, execution plan, including defining the scope of works, technical drawings and specifications for internal analysis.

On 10 September 2019, Rwanda signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with UNHCR and the African Union to evacuate refugees and asylum-seekers from Libya. Under the MoU, UNHCR in collaboration with the GoR and the AU established the ETM in Gashora Sector, Bugesera District, Rwanda to support up to 500 persons of concern (at any given time) to be evacuated from conflict zones, including detention centres in Libya, while continuing to search for durable solutions. Since the MOU, Rwanda has received a total of 306 refugees and asylum-seekers who are now safely accommodated on the existing accommodation block based on the current capacity of the Centre.

As Rwanda is a densely populated country, the GoR has adopted a policy requiring any new structures to be built vertically (to ensure economic use of scarcely available land-space). Accordingly, a Site planning with all supporting documents/designs and Bill of quantities prepared for storey accommodation block (G+2) and office block (G+1) and all submission uploaded to Bugesera District construction platform for award of construction permits.

The newly proposed facilities once constructed will accommodate 200 persons and the office structure will provide appropriate and safe office space for the purpose of case processing including interview rooms for RSD, resettlement, and other protection concerns.

Duties and Qualifications
Office and the direct supervision Head of Field Office based at Nyamata, the Supervising Engineer shall supervise the execution of the Contract for the construction of Proposed storey structure accommodation and office block in Gashora; construction of a Women Opportunity Centre; construction of Gashora Clinic; construction of a police post; construction of a livelihood training centre; Construction of a Child Friendly Space and other task assigned during the period. The Supervising/Construction Engineer shall in general carry out such duties as issuing instructions, decisions, certificates, and orders as are required for the satisfactory execution of the Contract.

The Supervising/Construction Engineer will be empowered to:
¿ Carry out tests of samples of materials and supplies and verify workmanship, as he/she may consider necessary at the cost of the Contractor in order to ensure their compliance with the relevant specifications and standards of the Contract.

¿ Measure quantities of work completed and approve or reject invoices submitted by the Contractor for such quantities.

¿ Issue and sign the Certificates of Completion of Works and Defects Liability Period.

¿ Serve as a quality assurance supervisor for all processes related to engineering works.

¿ Regularly examine and verify the works and outputs, both quantitatively and qualitatively.

¿ Identify, examine, measure, and certify any work which is about to be covered up (hidden works)

¿ Measure and test any work/workmanship and the quality, weight and/or quantity of any materials utilized.

¿ Identify problems related to the execution of works; recommend – for final approval by project management – on alternations and/or additions/omissions in the works.

¿ Conduct routine concrete test jointly with the contractors or take material samples to the laboratory during the construction of the storey building structures (especially accommodation and office block) to ensure mix ratio is attained.

¿ Support the office in structural, architectural drawings and prepare BOQs for proposed projects and follow up with the Bugesera District on construction permits.

¿ Ensure and coordinate with relevant authorities especially District Engineers and MINEMA for the material samples delivered on site by the contractors are approved and all works are done based on proper workmanship.

¿ Ensure that contractors follow and adhere to security measures on site especially for big project such as accommodation, office block; the contractors need to temporary build a corrugated iron sheet fencing and site management required during the implementation of the project.

¿ Carry out daily/weekly measured works for the new construction works and document or file; also, daily/weekly instructions documented on site logbooks.

¿ Share weekly/monthly technical progress/site minutes with Associate Physical Site Planner and Head of Field Office on the progress of construction works.

¿ At field level, assist the UNHCR Associate Physical Site Planner or Head of Field Office to implement clear guidance and standards for shelter, including minimum standards to meet basic and essential needs.

¿ Assist in verifying any BoQs, execution plan, including defining the scope of works, technical drawings and specifications for internal analysis.

¿ Support supply unit in the market analysis of locally available construction materials and skills, promoting the use of local capacity as appropriate.

¿ Support Field Office and WASH unit in monitoring WASH activities within the transit centre under partners implementation and commercial contractor and to ensure all related WASH services conform to UNHCR standards.

¿ Play major role in Multi-functional Team during joint monitoring of construction activities.

These include: statelessness (in line with the campaign to End Statelessness by 2024), Global Compact on Refugees (GCR) commitments, age, gender, diversity (AGD) and accountability to affected populations (AAP) through community-based protection, Child protection, Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) prevention and response, gender equality, disability inclusion, youth empowerment, psycho-social support and PSEA, registration, asylum/refugee status determination, resettlement, local integration, voluntary repatriation, human rights standards integration, national legislation, judicial engagement, predictable and decisive engagement in situations of internal displacement and engagement in wider mixed movement and climate change/disaster-related displacement responses. S/he supervises protection standards, operational procedures and practices in protection delivery in line with international standards.

The Associate Protection Officer is expected to coordinate quality, timely and effective protection responses to the needs of populations of concern, ensuring that operational responses in all sectors mainstream protection methodologies and integrate protection safeguards. The incumbent contributes to the design of a comprehensive protection strategy and represents the organization externally on protection doctrine and policy as guided by the supervisor. S/he also ensures that persons of concern are meaningfully engaged in the decisions that affect them and support programme design and adaptations that are influenced by the concerns, priorities and capacities of persons of concern. To achieve this, the incumbent will need to build and maintain effective interfaces with communities of concern, authorities, protection and assistance partners as well as a broader network of stakeholders who can contribute to enhancing protection.

Duties and Qualifications
Under the direct supervision of UNHCR Registration Officer, the Contractor will assume the following tasks in accordance with their principles and human values of the United Nations and with adherence to the UNHCR Code of Conduct. The services of the Contractor shall be retained to undertake to perform the following duties of Verification Clerk during verification exercise:
¿ Support with recording intentions to return through Kobo, return desks, phones and emails as received and ensure progress is updated accordingly.
¿ Counsel refugees on voluntary repatriation activities and in particular, case processing steps, requirements and return packages.
¿ Receive scheduled households, issue admission tokens and identify persons with vulnerabilities.
¿ Capture biometric information of refugees.
¿ Conduct individual interviews with refugees ushered into verifications desks and perform data update into proGres (UNHCR database for registration of refugees)
¿ Scan/copy any relevant new documents that refugees may have in their possession.
¿ Issue new documentation to refugees.
¿ Perform filing activities on refugee documents.
¿ Respect the confidential nature of the relationship between UNHCR and refugees by complying with data confidentiality policies.
¿ Perform any other related duties as required
¿ Assist with pre travel arrangements for departing refugees including admission to the Departure centre.
¿ Perform other activities as needed.

Essential Minimum Qualifications Required

¿ Completion of Secondary Education. University Degree would be a great added advantage.
¿ Good computer literacy with proficiency in relevant computer applications such as Microsoft Office products including Word, Power Point, Excel.
¿ Fluency in English and very good working knowledge of the local languages ¿ Swahili and Kinyarwanda




Desirable Qualifications and Competencies

¿ Past data entry experience preferably working knowledge of UNHCR¿s proGres (database for registration of refugees, returnees and displaced persons) will be an asset.
¿ Prior exposure to UNHCR¿s refugee operations related to registration of refugees will be an added advantage
¿ Attention to detail.
¿ Hard working, confidentiality, motivated, good interpersonal and team spirit.
¿ Ability to work under stress
¿ Good communication and customer service skills

Operational Context
The Registration Clerk provides clerical and administrative assistance to the immediate supervisor and/or the Office as a whole. The incumbent is normally supervised by an Officer or Associate. S/he receives regular guidance and instructions from the supervisor on procedural aspects of the work. As per specific instructions, the incumbent may require liaising with other internal or external entities, to ensure effective delivery of services and achievement of objectives.

The Government of Rwanda through Ministry of Disaster Management and Refugee Affairs (MIDIMAR) will conduct a joint verification exercise with UNHCR in favor of refugees and other persons of concern based in refugee camps and other urban areas in Rwanda.
