BACKGROUND
The University of Rwanda is a public institution of Higher learning committed to
support the development of the country through the generation and advancement of knowledge and innovation among other core activities. In that regard, the University through its Single Project Implementation Unit (UR-SPIU) is implementing a five-year research grant (under the acronym of “CHOICE project”) aiming at improving health literacy among teenagers through development and testing of learning resources for informed personal health choices and participation in dialogues about health in East African countries (Kenya, Rwanda and Uganda). The project is funded by research council of Norway under a consortium led by Norwegian Institute of Public Health.
To fulfill optimal functioning, UR-SPIU calls for qualified and motivated candidates to apply on the following position for a one-year renewable contract.

Duties and responsibilities
The incumbent will be required to perform the following activities in conjunction with research team:
Assist the Principal Investigator and Co-Investigator of Research in the administration and logistics of research activities.
Play a role in the planning and conduct of assigned research tasks individually or jointly in accordance with the project deliverables.
Co-design and review study tools (questionnaire, interviews guides, etc.);
Participate in field interventions (pretest, fieldwork supervision, data collection, data entry and management, etc)
Assist the Principal Investigator and Co-Investigator of Research in the administration and logistics of research activities.

Support in coordination of team/group meetings/seminars/workshops and research group activities to enhance the wider knowledge, outputs and deliverables

Bachelor’s Degree in Health related field.
Experience of data collection and or participation in research activities is a must
Computer literacy with very good knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, Access and Power Point etc) and other statistical software such STATA.
Excellent communication (both oral and written) in both English and Kinyarwanda is a must;
Teamwork and promptness in performing assigned tasks.

Summary of Role
IntraHealth is seeking 25 Temporary Data Collectors for the USAID Ingobyi Activity in Rwanda.
The Temporary Data Collectors, reporting to the Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning Director, will be responsible for collecting data from study participants, including getting informed consent, filling in the survey questionnaires conducting in-depth interviews for the selected participants and service providers. The Data Collectors will be responsible for entering questionnaires into the respective databases and also take photos as per the study requirements and will be required to write a brief report for their respective study sites. Project Background
The HortInvest project is funded by the Netherlands Embassy in Kigali and will contribute towards the attainment of the mission of the Rwanda National Horticulture Policy in terms of fast economic growth and rapid reduction in poverty and malnutrition in Rwanda and the objectives of the Rwanda-Dutch bilateral programme aimed at enhanced food security and private sector development. The expected impact will be primarily noticeable in the six target districts in North-west Rwanda.
The main areas of intervention of the HortInvest project are
1. Improving market-led horticultural production and supplies for domestic and regional markets
2. Enhancing food and nutrition security of rural households involved in horticulture and urban consumers
3. Developing high-value horticultural exports
4. Creating an enabling environment for commercial horticultural developments
The Netherlands has world-renowned horticulture that is very active internationally and is able to provide technologies and services that are considered to be beneficial to Rwandan farmers and on which the HortInvest project can build. Linking up with the private sector (Dutch, local and international companies) is a key element of the Netherlands Embassy’s horticultural development support programme, which is aimed at stimulating economic development and food security in Rwanda. The triple helix – comprising the private sector, government agencies, and civil society and knowledge organizations – is one of the strengths of the Dutch implementation strategy, which will also underpin the HortInvest project approach.
After its completion, the HortInvest project is expected to have contributed to the following two impacts:
Job Description
Reporting to the HortInvest Deputy Team Leader, the Nutrition Advisor will contribute to addressing malnutrition in the six HortInvest target districts in Rwanda (Karongi, Muhanga, Ngororero, Nyabihu, Rubavu, and Rutsiro). At the same time, the nutrition advisor will work closely with district staff in the implementation of activities aimed at improving nutrition awareness and to stimulate dietary diversity in rural communities. In cooperation with other members of the HortInvest team, the advisor will play a key role in the development and monitoring of HortInvest activities that support reduced malnutrition and increased consumption of fruits and vegetables. This includes working closely with various stakeholders, including government, at national and district level.
To assure effective implementation of HortInvest, the Nutrition Advisor is expected to maintain a pro-active attitude towards other HortInvest team members to seek integration of project activities as well as towards other development initiatives to seek complementarity. Proactivity will also be required in communication about nutrition activities both within the project, SNV as an organization, and externally to a wider target audience, including project beneficiaries, government, donors, and development partners.

About Building Learning Foundations (BLF)
The Building Learning Foundations Programme (BLF) is funded by the British government through the UK’s Department for International Development (DFID). The programme is focused on improving learning outcomes at P1 to P3 in English and Mathematics including those of children with Special Educational Needs. This is intended to improve the pupils’ learning achievement in higher grades, thereby increasing equitable access to primary and secondary education in Rwanda. The Programme is implemented by a consortium of organizations; Education Development Trust (lead), British Council, and VSO in all 30 Districts of Rwanda.
The BLF is designed to contribute to improved learning outcomes in lower primary education in English and Mathematics by targeting three specific Outcomes, presented as three BLF Foundations, each with clearly identified Outputs.
You will be responsible in this short-term position for leading a small team of VSO national volunteers who are responsible for providing high-quality school-level mentoring and workshop training to teachers in grades 1-3 on foundational English and mathematics in every primary school in a district of Rwanda (between 80 to 100 schools).
