Job description

The Shamba Centre for Food & Climate is seeking an Advisor on Sustainable Finance. This is a full-time position based in Kigali, Rwanda.

Under the Director of Programmes, the Advisor on Sustainable Finance will occupy a pivotal role in steering the implementation of sustainable finance for agri-food systems

This position requires a deep understanding of financial mechanisms and tools applicable to the agricultural and food industries.


Responsibilities

Research and analysis:

  • Conduct in-depth and comprehensive research to uncover emerging trends, potential opportunities, and significant challenges within the sphere of sustainable finance specifically tailored for agri-food systems.
  • Analyze global and regional financial mechanisms and instruments to evaluate their applicability and effectiveness in promoting sustainability in the agri food sector.
  • Synthesize complex data and research findings into actionable insights and strategic recommendations for the organization and its partners.

Thought Leaderships.

  • Stay abreast of the latest developments, innovations, and best practices in sustainable finance, bringing perspectives and ideas to the organization.
  • Contribute to articles, papers, blogs and presentations that highlight the organization’s work and promote wider adoption of the work on the organization on sustainable finance in agri-food systems.


Modelisation

  • Perform scenario analyses to assess the potential outcomes of sustainable finance strategies.
  • Collect, process, and analyze large datasets to inform model inputs and validate model outputs.
  • Develop, test, and refine complex financial models to analyze the viability, risks, and impacts of various sustainable finance initiatives.

Qualifications

  • At least a master’s degree in a master’s degree in finance, economics or a related field
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in finance, with a specific focus on sustainability and agriculture.
  • Strong understanding of financial instruments and mechanisms, including blended finance, carbon markets, and impact investment
  • Demonstrated experience in policy advisory and stakeholder engagement.
  • Excellent analytical, strategic thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Excellent analytical and writing skills in English and French.


Assessment

Evaluation of qualified candidates may include a written assessment and a competency-based interview.
