Job responsibilities
Install, maintain, test, and repair hospital electrical systems and equipment. Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on electrical installations. Inspect electrical panels, distribution boards, cables, switches, sockets, lighting, and protective devices. Troubleshoot electrical faults and restore power safely and promptly. Maintain main power supply, generators, UPS systems, batteries, and emergency power systems. Maintain normal and emergency lighting systems, including lighting in operating theatres, wards, laboratories, and other critical areas. Test and maintain electrical protection systems such as circuit breakers, fuses, earthing, and surge protection. Monitor electrical loads and identify potential overloads or unsafe conditions. Carry out electrical installations for new buildings, renovations, and hospital equipment. Support the installation and connection of medical and non-medical equipment in coordination with biomedical and engineering teams. Respond to electrical emergencies and power failures, particularly in critical clinical departments. Carry out routine inspections and electrical safety testing. Read and interpret electrical drawings, wiring diagrams, and technical specifications. Maintain accurate records of inspections, repairs, maintenance, faults, and electrical test results. Assist in energy-efficiency initiatives and monitor unnecessary power consumption. Supervise or coordinate electrical contractors when required. Ensure all electrical work follows applicable electrical codes, occupational-safety requirements, and hospital procedures. Maintain electrical tools, testing instruments, spare parts, and equipment in good condition.
