Duty station CHUK and Ruhengeri

Project: Smart Discharges Project

Positions: Research Nurse (3), Research Nurse Supervisor (1)

Type of contract: Consultancy contract- 8 months to 15 months

Reports to: Research Nurse Coordinator/Paediatric Ward In-charges

Interfaces with: Patients/ Clients, Clinicians, Hospital Managers, Project Staff

The research nurses(4) will be employed to carry out the “Smart Discharge” study. This process includes identifying and approaching eligible children upon admission to the ward, consenting and enrolling participants, collecting blood samples, and conducting a survey of the child’s caregiver. The research nurse will work closely with a site-based research team, as well as the project team, based at the Teaching Hospital of Kigali (CHUK)

JOB REQUIREMENTS AND COMPETENCIES

RESEARCH NURSES

  • Minimum qualification; Nurse with minimum A1 Degree
  • At least 2 years’ experience in clinical research studies
  • Must hold a valid license to practice
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Excellent Communication skills with patients, clinicians, and other members of the general practice team
  • Good interpersonal skills, knowledge of practices, trends, and principles in nursing, and Quality of care
  • Upholding a high level of professional conduct
  • Experience in the use of research applications is an added value

SPECIFIC JOB RESPONSIBILITIES FOR THE RESEARCH NURSES

  1. Determine patient eligibility at study sites
  2. Consenting of study subjects
  3. Collection of all required data during hospitalization
  4. Ensuring safety and confidentiality of the data collected
  5. Collect specimens and conducting appropriate laboratory testing and if necessary, deliver of   specimens to lab for appropriate lab testing
  6. Retrieval of test results from the laboratory, as necessary
  7. Work hand in hand with the Smart Discharges research nurse team and the child’s clinical team, to ensure accurate sharing of data, consistent quality in data collection, and seamless clinical and research activities.
  8. Upholding high level of professional conduct
  9. Work hand in hand with the Senior Research Nurse to ensure accuracy and completeness of the data collected
  10. Upholding high level of professional conduct
  11. Any other duties as assigned

SYSTEMS/ TECHNOLOGY

Mobile device familiarity, Phone4OXR, PARA App, Microsoft Word & Excel, Rwandan Electronic Medical Systems, general internet use, email.
