Job Description
GHA is seeking a qualified and talented Special Education Needs Coordinator to provide and coordinate learning support. We are looking for a teacher who is deeply committed to challenging and supporting learners to excel academically and socially – a teacher who is passionate about teaching and compassionate with learners.
The Special Educational Needs Coordinator works with children and young people who need extra support to reach their full educational potential. The Coordinator also works with teachers and provides support and training to help teachers with learner support strategies.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with teachers to identify learners who need additional learning support
- Assess learners and their needs and determine how best to support them
- Provide class and subject teachers with professional development and teaching and learning strategies for learners with special needs
- Liaise with other professionals, such as social workers, speech and language therapists, physiotherapists, and educational psychologists
- Work closely with parents and guardians
- Carry out administrative tasks, including updating and maintaining records of learners’ progress
- Attend in-service training
- Commitment to working with learners with special educational needs
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- The ability to build good relationships based on trust with learners and their families
- Behavior management skills and the ability to manage challenging behavior
- Initiative and problem-solving skills
- Teamwork skills to liaise with other teachers, teaching assistants, and other professionals
- Organizational skills
- An observant and responsive approach
- Flexibility and the ability to respond to the needs of the children and adapt or change plans accordingly

Qualifications
Bachelor of Education (BEd) in SEN or a BA/BSc with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
