Job Title: Simulation and Sciences laboratory technician
Reports to: Simulation and Skills center coordinator
Group/Department: Educational Development and Quality Center (EDQC)
Location: University of Global Health Equity, Butaro campus – Rwanda
Role Purpose: The University of Global Health Equity (UGHE) is seeking to recruit a technician to support the operations of UGHE’s Simulation center and Basic Medical Sciences (BMS) laboratories. Under the direction and supervision of the Simulation and Skills center coordinator, the technician will provide technical support for all operations, including, but not limited to running the simulation equipment, maintenance, and safety of simulation and BMS laboratory equipment.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Equipment setup (simulators, task trainers, supplies, and audiovisual equipment, and other equipment at the sim lab).
- Support the simulation faculty in running the pre-programmed scenarios and operating simulator software during simulation activities.
- Conduct internal quality control and routine preventive maintenance of all simulation and BMS laboratory equipment to ensure that all equipment is always maintained in good working quality.
- Monitor and assure appropriate standards of the lab’s cleanliness, safe storage, and disposal of simulation and BMS equipment.
- Support the simulation center team in the day-to-day operations at the center including conducting routine inventory updates, scheduling the usage, signing out, and movement of simulation equipment.
- Scheduling simulation activities.
- Assisting with best-practice technology and simulation training for faculty, including safe simulation practices.
- Follow-up on the procurement of new simulation and BMS equipment.
- Assist the simulation and BMS teams with the supervision of students in the labs, maintaining safe practices, and abiding by all established policies and procedures for the labs.
- Interface with equipment manufacturers regarding equipment troubleshooting and system problems.
- Maintain and update all simulation and BMS equipment SoPs, catalogs, and operation manuals.
- Participate in other related UGHE responsibilities as required as guided by the immediate supervisor.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE/SKILLS
- Bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering
- Additional qualification in health sciences (nursing, MD…) is highly recommended
- Knowledge in patient simulation, health science technologies, and applications.
- 1-2 years of experience in a teaching environment.
- Knowledge of computer hardware equipment and software applications relevant to simulation and medical sciences
- Knowledge of audio/video equipment and software.
- Must be able to independently move equipment (less than 11kgs) and move manikins (less than 25 kgs) with the assistance of others.
- English proficiency is required.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Results-oriented with adherence to deliverables and deadlines.
- Willingness to relocate full time to Butaro, Rwanda
