Job Purpose |
The role of Senior Advocacy and Communications Officer is to increase the external footprint and visibility of International Alert Rwanda by maximizing the dissemination, coverage, and impact of our work, and by promoting our programs, initiatives, events and activities among policy makers, donors, the media, and the public. The postholder provides an oversight of internal and external communication processes and products. S/He prepares a wide range of written materials, presentations, and possibly audio-visual material for local and international audiences, in line with ethical and branding guidelines. |

The position is based in Kigali city with frequent travel to the districts in which we work. |
PERSON SPECIFICATION
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Business/Marketing, International Development, or a related field |
Minimum three years of demonstrated professional experience in communications, content development, digital content creation/design, and social media. |
Tech savvy, awareness of content trends that can engage audiences. |
Technical ability to exploit the full capacities of electronic media for assembling, organizing and managing information. |
Experience with media and communications, including photography and video production. Ability to deliver a complete and polished product. |
Ability to interact professionally with a diverse employee population and with all levels of staff and management. |
Willingness to work outside normal working hours (when required) in a time-driven communication cycle |
Experience working in a globally oriented organization, ideally in a peacebuilding field and interacting with global/multinational colleagues |
Familiar with Google Analytics, AWeber, Mailchimp, WordPress, Photoshop, Illustrator, Vimeo, SlideShare, YouTube, Google Doc, short video editing and streaming software. |
Understand the best practices of main social media channels including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc |
Strong emotional intelligence and self-awareness. |
Communicates clearly and cogently in English and Kinyarwanda in writing and speech |
Reads French easily, can write informal memos in French, and can sustain a professional conversation in French about strategic and operational aspects of Alert’s work. |
DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS
Established and influential communicator with strong profile and networks in the sector. |
Fluency in other languages spoken in Greak Lakes region like Swahili. |
