Job Description
– Reporting to the Seed and Fertilizers Division Manager, the Seed Processing Technician has the following functions:
– Coordinate and monitor the activities of seed harvesting, processing and handling both on RAB Stations and among private seed multipliers to provide the required technical backstopping for promoting the quality of seed delivered in the industry;
– Provide advisory on the appropriate seed processing and handling technologies for use both on station and among the private seed multipliers in the country;
– Ensure adequate planning, timely requisition and procurement of materials and equipment required to facilitate seed processing, as well as ensure their regular calibration and maintenance;
– Devise a mechanism to facilitate access to and use seed processing equipment/facilities available at RAB by the private seed producers;
– Ensuring availability of appropriate storage facilities to support both on-station seed production and the private seed multipliers;
– Contribute to the development of knowledge tools and information systems on seed processing;
– Provide technical support to local seed producers, prepare and disseminate manuals for processing, handling and safe storage of seed in the country;
– Mobilize and backstop the private sector adoption and practice of practices for improved seed processing, handling, storage and logistics;
– Ensure the implementation of activities, projects and assets management that promote the delivery of adequate quality seed in the country and that public finances and goods are well managed;
– Undertaking any other duties as assigned by the supervisor and other relevant authorities;
– Preparation of weekly, quarterly, annual and other reports concerning seed processing and conditioning activities as may be required;
