We are looking for an experienced strategic thinker to lead high-level strategies and to lead the Strategic Projects team in Rwanda. The team solves complex operational and strategic problems across multiple functions.

Founded in 2006, One Acre Fund supplies 1 million smallholder farmers with the agricultural services they need to make their farms vastly more productive. Our 8,000+ team is drawn from diverse backgrounds and professions. With operations across six core countries in Africa, we make farmers more prosperous by providing quality farm supplies on credit, delivered within walking distance of farmers’ homes, and agricultural training to improve harvests. On average, the farmers we serve harvest 50 percent more food after working with One Acre Fund.

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are looking for an experienced strategic thinker to lead the Strategic Projects department in Rwanda. The team oversees cross-department projects, including our Credit Scoring Strategy, Bank partnerships, Micro-Entrepreneurship initiative, and our new Ventures Studio. The team also takes on new projects on an ongoing basis to support departments lacking bandwidth or needing specific strategic support.

You will report to the head of Strategy and Performance and you will manage a growing team of five, who are solving complex operational and strategic problems across multiple functions. You will create structure out of ambiguity and lead high-level strategies, working directly with in-country and global leadership. You will keep a macro-view of the team’s ongoing activities and make sure everything fit together.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Strategic Vision – You will oversee a wide portfolio of projects, addressing key challenges the country program faces. You will make sure these projects have a clear strategic direction and that they fall neatly within a broader long-term strategy.
  • Lead high-priority country initiatives – You will work with your team members and relevant departments to design and implement strategic projects supporting the growth of the Rwanda program.
  • Research and development – You will assess new opportunities and build relevant interventions, keeping in mind the short, mid and long-term vision.

QUALIFICATIONS

Across all roles, these are the general qualifications we look for. For this role specifically, you will have:

  • 5+ years of experience, with at least 3+ years within strategic/consulting contexts
  • 3+ years leading complex projects, with interdepartmental coordination experience
  • You have multiple years of experience working in one of our countries of operations
  • Management experience
  • Strategic finance experience
  • We are looking for someone who can quickly identify what matters and communicate that clearly and concisely
  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree
  • Language: English (Kinyarwanda or French is also very useful)
