Job description

Carry out works to manage local flood risks in relation to major or small water courses within either sub
– catchments; Assess and investigate flash flooding incidents and publish the results of such investigations; Assess, revise and estimate the overall cost of the proposed flood control works; Work closely with Topographer in the development of longitudinal surveys for flood infrastructures planned/updated as required to sufficient detail to allow design and costing; Conduct flood surveys and flood plain delineations and hazard area mapping zones susceptible to flooding; Provide river channel analyses and design for any development and flood control; Design mitigation strategies to maintain the storage of flood waters and increased runoff from development creating flood

– safe neighborhoods; Prepare flood risk Assessment (FRA) for each catchment and provide advice on the appropriate way to mitigate flooding; Highlight issues and proposals to overcome flood risk, identifying measures taken to alleviate future problems through good design. Work with the Senior Hydraulic Engineers and other specialists in identifying locations and types of hydraulic structures, and in developing the concept engineering designs for the hydraulic structures required in each basin in the project, bringing in innovative solutions; Work with the Senior Hydraulic Engineers and other specialists to produce detailed designs for hydraulic structures along the river course and on river basins projects; Carry out extensive consultations with relevant institutions/stakeholders on the development and construction of structures along the river course and obtaining suggestions and agreement to achieve project delivery; Preparing tender documents for construction and reviewing technical submissions; Prepare the Daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual progress Report on all project activities to the Division Manager and design the framework for the physical and process monitoring of program activities Perform any other duties assigned by Supervisor

Bachelor’s Degree in Hydrology,Master’s Degree in Hydrology,Bachelor’s Degree in Water Resources Engineering,Master’s Degree in Water Resources Engineering ,Bachelor’s Degree in River Basin Engineering,Master’s Degree in River Basin Engineering, , Integrity,Creativity/innovation,Inclusiveness,Accountability,Communication,Teamwork,Client/citizen focus,Professionalism,Commitment to continuous learning,Resource management skills,Analytical skills,Problem solving skills,Decision making skills,Time management skills,Risk management skills,Results oriented,Digital literacy skills,Fluency in Kinyaranda English and or French knowledge of Swahili is an added advantage,Fluency in English, Kinyarwanda and/or French. Knowledge of all is an added advantage,Knowledge in hydrogeology and ground water modeling,Knowledge in GIS skills,Knowledge in hydrology, and flood management,Excellent knowledge and practice of the hydraulic modeling software such as as HEC
– RAS, Tuflow, LISEM and Infoworks, etc,Experience with remote sensing for rivers’ monitoring,Knowledge in implementing 1D and 2D modeling techniques for river and urban flooding applications,Knowledge and practice of the hydraulic modeling software such as HEC
