JOB DESCRIPTION: RHAP ENGINEER MSH HSS NEXT PROJECT UNDER HISP RWANDA

Position Overview:

As an RHAP Engineer for the MSH HSS Next project under Health Information Systems Program (HISP) Rwanda, you will have a crucial role in aligning functional requirements with the generation of insightful analytics. Your expertise will be pivotal in providing programmatic insights through effective data use.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Functional Requirement Alignment:

Collaborate closely with stakeholders to deeply understand and document functional requirements that drive program metrics and analytics within the health sector.

Analyse requirements to ensure smooth integration with data collection, processing, and analytics workflows.


  1. Analytics Generation and Visualization:
  • Design, develop, and implement data analytics solutions using the Rwanda Health Analytics Platform (RHAP) by Zenysis, DHIS2 and other available tools.
  • Craft compelling and actionable data visualisations, dashboards, and reports that provide valuable insights to program stakeholders

Data Demand and Use Advocacy:

  • Collaborate with program stakeholders to understand data needs and drive a culture of data-driven decision-making.
  • Facilitate workshops and training sessions to empower stakeholders in utilising analytics for informed programmatic choices.


  1. Shared Services Development:
  • Identify opportunities to develop shared services, components, and tools that can be harnessed across diverse projects and teams.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to create reusable solutions, frameworks, and libraries that enhance efficiency and consistency.
  1. Quality Assurance and Testing:
  • Rigorously test and validate generated analytics and reports to ensure accuracy, reliability, and compliance with project requirements.
  • Collaborate closely with testing teams to guarantee data integrity and precision in reporting.


  1. Documentation and Reporting:
  • Document analytics solutions, development processes, and best practices for knowledge sharing and future reference.
  • Provide timely and insightful updates and reports on the progress of analytics development and cloud support activities.
  1. Stakeholder Engagement:
  • Maintain open and effective communication with program stakeholders, cloud platform teams, and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Effectively translate technical concepts into understandable information for non-technical audiences.


Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Public Health or related field. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Proven experience (4+ years) in data analytics, software development, or related roles, particularly within the healthcare sector.
  • Proficiency in data visualisation tools
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to translate requirements into meaningful analytics solutions.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a demonstrated capacity to mentor and guide colleagues.
  • Familiarity with health information systems, electronic health records, and DHIS2 is highly advantageous.
  • Experience in indicator design and definition for monitoring and evaluation as well data management and reporting in the health sector.
  • Fluency in English and Kinyarwanda; knowledge of French is a plus.
