Eligible Candidates: Teaching Credential/Licensed Teacher
Education Required: Bachelors in Education, Certification as a reading specialist or special education teacher is preferred
Minimum Teaching Experience: 3 years of teaching experience
The Reading Intervention Teacher works with students to help them improve reading skills. The Teacher addresses the specific needs of particular children when regular classroom instruction is not sufficient. The Reading Intervention Teacher reports to the Middle School and High School Principals.
Responsibilities
- Provide remedial reading instruction for learners who need extra support individually and in small groups
- Coordinate the reading intervention services so that they support the regular classes
- Design interventions and write lesson plans to meet the needs of learners
- Consult with the Learning Support Coordinator and classroom teachers to support the students who need reading intervention
- Assist in the evaluation of ongoing programs and make recommendations for improvement
- Help teachers diagnose reading strengths and weaknesses and help them support learners
- Keep the parents informed about learners’ progress of the reading intervention program
- Work with leaders and teachers to facilitate the coordination of the reading intervention program with the regular curriculum
- Promote interest in reading
- Work with the Learning Support Coordinator to coordinate reading instruction designed to meet the individual needs of students
- Work with the classroom teacher to monitor student progress
- Be familiar with the RTI process and tiered instruction; ideally have knowledge of Fountas and Pinnell and BAS (Benchmark Assessment System)
- Perform other responsibilities as may be assigned by the Middle School and High School Principals
