Job Description

Reporting to the Cereal Program Coordinator Senior Principal Research Fellow, the maize breeder research fellow has the following responsibilities

– Conduct breeding research on maize crop and technology transfer of innovations from the breeding work on the crop;
– Develop and submit winning research project proposal for presentation to local and international research partners and donors;
– Collaborate with other Scientists in RAB on the in their regular activities including in the collection of raw materials, laboratory work and in writing reports and publications;
– Collaborate with other researchers, locally, regionally and internationally on maize breeding;
– Participate in meetings, seminars, conferences relevant to field of research and bring visibility of RAB in local and international fora;
– Ensure mentorship for junior scientists in maize breeding;
– Provide training to farmers and extension agents on improved agricultural practices;
– Analyze, disseminate research findings and publish peer reviewed journals, scientific conferences, books and book chapters, and extension materials;
– Prepare and submit quarterly and annual reports on research activities conducted;
– Provide training to farmers and extension agents on improved agricultural practices;
– Ensure adequate management of resources under his or her responsibilities;
– Perform any other duty given by the Cereal Program Coordinator or RAB Management.

Job Description

– Reporting to the Head of Department Crop Innovation & Tech. Transfer, the Crop Protection Program Coordinator Senior Research Fellow has the following responsibilities:
– Provide leadership for the identification, assessment, planning, implementation, monitoring, evaluation, impact assessment and reporting processes of crop pests and diseases prevention and management initiatives
– Identify and prioritize researchable problems, and accordingly prepares a proposal to undertake the study
– Develop and disseminate technologies for effective control of the outbreaks of pests and diseases of major crops
– Coordinate and manage strategies leading to progressive reduction of pest and diseases incidences and subsequent eradication
– awareness on safe use and handling of pesticides, as well as effective use of Integrated Pest Management (IPM)
– Provide technical subject matter assistance to stations and district staff in crop protection strategies
– Produce and disseminate information for awareness creation and sensitization on crop protection materials (posters and fliers)
– Coordinate the Implementing of the national crop protection strategy in line with the following themes: Pest exclusion/ prevention;(1) Pest detection/ Early Warning/ Surveillance; (2) Emergency preparedness and response; (3) Pest management programs
– Establish and maintain effective collaboration with other researchers, locally, regionally and internationally
– Coordinating mobilization of financial resources for research through proposal writing through competitive funding

Job Description

Reporting to the Coordinator of Roots and Tubers Program, the Potato Breeder Senior Research Fellow has the following job description:
– Design and conduct research of Irish potato by implementing breeding, screen house, field trials, and laboratory experiments to produce reliable and accurate data to support innovations development.
– Provide leadership for Irish potato commodity research and extensions.
– Collaborate with other researchers in their regular activities including data management and analysis and writing reports and publications.
– Provide trainings to farmers and extension agents for Irish Potato GAP.
– Train and supervise students in the internship
– Develop research proposal for funds mobilization.
– Prepare weekly, quarterly and annual reports on research activities accomplished.
– Backstop and support extension staff and potato value chain actors to mitigate challenges in potato sector.
– Participate in relevant meetings, seminars, conferences to enhance the visibility of the institution.
– Carry out a mentorship of young scientist in Roots and Tubers program to upgrade their knowledge and skills.
– Write or contribute to scientific publications for Roots and Tubers crops.
– Ensure the adequate management of resources under his or her responsibilities for the institution clean report. Ensure a good budget execution and implementation of institution performance contracts
– Undertake other duties as assigned by the program coordinator and other RAB Senior Managers

Reporting to the Head of Innovation and Technology Transfer Department, the Pulses and Oil Crops Program Coordinator, Senior Research Fellow has the following responsibilities:
– Provide overall leadership and coordination of all activities including research, technology generation, technology transfer, dissemination and extension activities of pulses and oils crops
– Articulate research agenda for pulses and oil crops breeding, agronomy diseases or pest control aligning with government policies and national priorities

Job Description

The Disability Inclusion and Gender Specialist will work closely with the Chief of Party, Deputy Chief of Party, Technical Lead, as well as the Director of Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning to ensure that principles of disability inclusion as well as gender equality are integrated into all aspects of project design and implementation. S/he will be the technical lead in the development and implementation of the disability and gender inclusion strategy of the project. S/he will provide programmatic and technical support to the project team, government counterparts, and other stakeholders on effective integration of educational approaches that are sensitive to the needs of all learners including students with disabilities and special learning needs. S/he will work closely with project staff to ensure integration of appropriate elements in the M&E plan. The Disability Inclusion and Gender Specialist will also provide necessary guidance related to the mainstreaming of gender and disabilities within the project’s internal operations and processes, including in recruitment and HR policies. S/he will also serve as the project’s focal person for safeguarding.

Job Summary/Responsibilities

  • Provide disability inclusion and gender technical guidance related to the project’s objectives to the CoP, DCoP, Director of Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning, and other key technical staff.
  • Assume the primary role of technical writer of program documents on disability inclusion and gender.
  • Provide technical guidance across the various components of the project to ensure disability-inclusion and gender integration in project interventions and trainings.
  • Support the MEL Director to track and report against Gender and Social Inclusion (GESI)-related indicators, including disability inclusion indicators, and disaggregating data appropriately to analyze results within each project component (intermediate result).
  • In collaboration with the MEL Director, conduct annual GESI assessments to measure progress and adjust and/or refine project activities.
  • In collaboration with a headquarters-based Gender and Disability Inclusion Specialists (if needed), mentor and train project staff, partners, and stakeholders, including Ministry of Education and Social Development’s officials, on gender and disability-inclusion integration and mainstreaming issues, tools, policies, and practices as relate to project objectives.
  • Work with literacy and pedagogy specialists to prepare and deliver teacher professional development modules on:
    • Inclusive education and Universal Design for Learning (UDL)
    • Gender-sensitive pedagogy and curricula
    • Safe school methodologies to prevent and reduce school-related gender-based violence.

Note: Professional development modules may include in-service or pre-service and may be designed for face-to-face training or eLearning.

  • Support technical project staff to ensure that training materials and participant engagement are gender and disability-inclusion sensitive.

  • Experience ensuring Gender and Social Inclusion (GESI) integration in project design, implementation and M&E required.
  • Experience developing and delivering GESI-themed content in training and education materials as well as GESI-focused assessments, training, and organizational capacity-building preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in teacher professional development and/or curriculum development.
  • Ability to navigate politically sensitive subjects and maintain constructive relationships with a diverse group of stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically and transmit her/his vision to partners and colleagues.
  • Ability to influence, motivate, and collaborate with others.
  • Experience in the education sector in Rwanda or the region strongly required.
  • Fluency in English required.
  • Excellent technical writing skills in English
