ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT

The World Food Programme is the world’s largest humanitarian agency, fighting hunger worldwide. We are currently seeking to fill an internship position under the WFP Smallholder Agricultural Market Support (SAMS) – Huye.  The position will be based in Huye, Rwanda. The Internship will be for an initial period of 6 months starting from July  2022.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT:

Smallholder Agriculture Market Support (SAMS) Unit/ Huye  is currently engaged in six inter-related initiatives aimed at uplifting the livelihoods of smallholder farmers: The Farm to Market Alliance (FtMA); Home Grown School Feeding (HGSF); Joint programme on Rural Women’s Economic Empowerment (JP RWEE); the Sustainable Agricultural Productivity and Market Linkage Project (SAPMP); the post-harvest loss reduction (PHLR) initiative; and the Master card Foundation from the seven Districts. Six in the South (Ruhango, Nyanza, Huye, Gisagara, Nyaruguru and Nyamagabe and one in the West (Rusizi).

WFP Huye field office is looking for a suitable candidate to participate in the female Internship Programme 2022 in Monitoring and evaluation and Knowledge management focusing on Small Holde Farmers Market Support.




STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Currently enrolled in a graduate programme from a recognized university and have completed at least 2 years of studies, preferably in agriculture, rural development, agribusiness or other related fields
  • Must have attended courses in the last 12 months
  • Recently graduated from a graduate programme (within 12 months) prior to application of internship programme
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Power Point);
  • Fluent in English (both oral and written)

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

  • Under the direct supervisor of Head of Huye field office, the intern will be responsible for the following duties:
  • Provide specialized support to SHF operations and programmes to ensure that the various activities are performed within the established targets following WFP’s policies and procedures in the following areas
  • Facilitate participating farmer organizations and farmer-friendly aggregation entities to access agricultural services by coordinating with key value chain stakeholders on the ground.
  • Liaise with internal counterparts across functional units to support effective collaboration, implementation and monitoring of ongoing project activities
  • Participate and contribute to the Monitoring, Evaluation and Reporting of SAMS interventions, with focus on FtMA platform in close coordination with cooperating partners.
  • Liaise with the External Partnerships and Communications unit (EPC) and/or relevant colleagues and produce periodic updates on SAMS work, including operational updates.
  • Within the specific area of responsibility, prepare a range of reports and data analysis (e.g., programme status, performance) and highlight trends/issues ensuring deliverables adhere to corporate standards and quality control.
  • Participate in E-management meetings with cooperating partners
