ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT

The World Food Programme is the world’s largest humanitarian agency, fighting hunger worldwide. We are currently seeking to fill an internship position under the WFP TEC Unit. The position will be based in Kigali, Rwanda. The Internship will be for an initial period of 6 months starting from July  2022.

JOB PURPOSE

Rwanda is a low-income, least-developed country with a population of 11.2 million people, of whom 52 percent are women and girls and 48 percent men and boys. Since the 1994 genocide, the Government of Rwanda has consistently and rather successfully pursued development objectives, but many challenges persist including food and nutrition.

WFP Rwanda helps the government enhance the national capacity to manage and innovate, but also to tackle more immediate humanitarian needs and provides a path to self-reliance, ensuring no one is left behind while facilitating national ownership. WFP is increasingly transitioning from humanitarian action into development and humanitarian nexus efforts to create links and make a greater impact.

The primary mission of the Vulnerability Assessment and Mapping (VAM) unit is to identify food insecure populations and their needs, provide early warning, and generate information/knowledgebase to guide in the formulation of durable and better-targeted food security and livelihood solutions. The successful candidate will be responsible for collating and organizing datasets to provide in-depth analysis and understanding of Rwanda’s food and nutrition security.
