ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT

The World Food Programme is the world’s largest humanitarian agency, fighting hunger worldwide. We are currently seeking to fill an internship position under the WFP VAM/M&E Unit. The position will be based in Kigali, Rwanda. The Internship will be for an initial period of 6 months starting from July  2022.

JOB PURPOSE

Rwanda is a low-income, least-developed country with a population of 11.2 million people, of whom 52 percent are women and girls and 48 percent men and boys. Since the 1994 genocide, the Government of Rwanda has consistently and rather successfully pursued development objectives, but many challenges persist including food and nutrition.

WFP Rwanda helps the government enhance the national capacity to manage and innovate, but also to tackle more immediate humanitarian needs and provides a path to self-reliance, ensuring no one is left behind while facilitating national ownership. WFP is increasingly transitioning from humanitarian action into development and humanitarian nexus efforts to create links and make a greater impact.

The primary mission of the Vulnerability Assessment and Mapping (VAM) unit is to identify food insecure populations and their needs, provide early warning, and generate information/knowledgebase to guide in the formulation of durable and better-targeted food security and livelihood solutions. The successful candidate will be responsible for collating and organizing datasets to provide in-depth analysis and understanding of Rwanda’s food and nutrition security.





STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Currently enrolled in a graduate programme from a recognized university and have completed at least 2 years of studies, preferably in Geography; Geographic Information Systems; Earth Observation/ Remote Sensing; Statistics or related fields.
  • Must have attended courses in the last 12 months
  • Recently graduated from a graduate programme (within 12 months) prior to application of internship programme
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint);
  • Fluent in English (both oral and written)
  • or related fields.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

  • Under the guidance of the Head of VAM/M&E Unit, the primary duties of the intern shall include the following:
    Support in the in-depth analysis of food and nutrition security data from the national Comprehensive Food Security and Vulnerability Assessment (CFSVA) and develop high-quality data visualization.
  • Assemble appropriate food and nutrition security indicators from different data sources into a database.
  • Explore opportunities and gaps to enable WFP Rwanda CO to Through the use of satellite remote sensing and spatial visualization, explore and develop insights into complex dynamics and inform decision-making.
  • Perform preparatory work on the use of the Asset Impact Monitoring System for WFP asset-building projects or landscape rehabilitation in and around the refugees’ camps.
  • Perform other duties as required.
