Information Technology (IT) Associate – Rwanda Schools and Systems Activity

Project Description 

The Rwanda Schools and Systems Activity will strengthen the education system to enable all pre-primary and lower primary school and classroom environments to be of high quality, inclusive, and focused on learning of foundational reading skills. Specifically, five-year activity will improve learning outcomes by focusing on increasing Kinyarwanda literacy skills of boys and girls through primary 3 (P3) through four intermediate results: (1) Pre-primary education system enhanced to develop, promote and improve emergent literacy, (2) Lower primary reading classroom instruction improved, (3) School environments improved for increased lower primary reading outcomes, and (4) Education systems management strengthened for improve literacy outcomes. The Schools and Systems Activity will include a focus on learning for children with disabilities to ensure project approaches reach all children.

Position Description 

The IT Associate provides general IT support to the project office in Kigali in coordination with the regional (EASARO) IT experts. Under the in-country administrative supervision of the Director of Finance and Operations and technical supervision of the Regional IT Manager, the IT Associate’s functions and responsibilities include

Administering and delivering general IT support to the project office and staff, including (but not limited to) managing, supporting, and maintaining information systems such as equipment, network, server(s) and Internet connections, websites, and other related computer needs, including:

Periodic update of and the preventive and corrective maintenance of computer platforms with respect to hardware, software, databases, Internet, and fixed telephony (cleaning, antivirus, defragmentation) through an established system of control of maintenance needs.

Regular monitoring and periodic maintenance of office equipment, computer equipment (computers, laptops, printers, scanners, etc.), and network equipment to ensure that they are in good condition and working well.

Support staff to access and use shared cloud storage in accordance with the organization’s Electronic Data Archiving and Protection Policy.

Schedule and execute information backup processes on office equipment.

Give instructions to each computer user about the measures of safeguarding project equipment

Manage the project office IT infrastructure: Internal Network, Server, etc, including, but not limited to:

Install and configure new “Software” and “Hardware” packages

Ensure the quality of Internet service.

Provide troubleshooting support to users of project IT assets such as computers, printers, tablets, etc. Actively participate in periodic virtual meetings with FHI360’s regional IT and/or Information Solutions Services (ISS) team. Write a report on the issues discussed and/or decisions made at each virtual meeting and share with Director of Finance and Operations. In collaboration with the Operations Manager, support in the inventory management of IT materials, as well as manage the registration of computer and electronic equipment borrowed by staff for external use in the implementation of field activities. In collaboration with the Operations Manager and Procurement Officer, support the requisition and purchasing processes of computer supplies for use in the project office. Execute other activities that are required and authorized for the proper performance of their functions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge and solid experience in the use and application of computer systems, databases, programs, and operating systems such as Windows, Linus, Mac, etc.
  • At least 2 years experience in a similar position providing IT support in a medium-sized office
  • Experience working with international organizations
  • Detail-oriented with excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work in a diverse team.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and to take initiative.
  • Experience of handling diverse range of complex situation.
