Founded in 2006, One Acre Fund supplies 1 million smallholder farmers with the agricultural services they need to make their farms vastly more productive. Our 8,000+ team is drawn from diverse backgrounds and professions. With operations across six core countries in Africa, we make farmers more prosperous by providing quality farm supplies on credit, delivered within walking distance of farmers’ homes, and agricultural training to improve harvests. On average, our farmers harvest 50 percent more food after working with One Acre Fund.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Global Sourcing team brings high-quality, life-changing inputs to our clients as cost efficiently as possible. We source over $70M worth of inputs to One Acre Fund’s regional warehouses across 7 countries. As a team, we develop a flexible sourcing strategy, navigate within a complex and evolving regulatory environment and develop tight quality controls to guarantee inputs make it from supplier to OAF warehouse at the best possible price and quality. It is our job to represent the voices of our smallholder farmers at the top of the value chain, bringing them the same purchasing power, state of art quality control mechanisms, and in time deliveries as any large-scale agribusiness.

RESPONSIBILITIES

As Global Seed Supply Chai Manager you report to the Global Sourcing Director. You’ll manage a team of 6 people responsible for purchasing all seed for all of our program countries. You’ll achieve this by coaching, empowering, and supporting your team to:

  • Work with country teams to set a high level purchasing strategy including market scanning, supplier selection process, negotiations and contracting.
  • Bring high-quality seed on time and in full to all country clients as efficiently as possible.
  • Mitigate seed supply chain disruptions and fuel year-over-year cost savings through supplier relationship management and seed industry connects.
  • Lead seed partnerships with suppliers ensuring supply chain reliability.
  • Support and integrate input procurement and partnerships for crop commercialization.
  • Oversee our in-house seed lab in Kenya.
  • Guarantee standard controls and SOPs are followed, data are accurate and updated real-time.

QUALIFICATIONS

Across all roles, these are the general qualifications we look for. For this role specifically, you will have:

  • At least 5 years of experience in procurement or supply chain management.
  • Experience developing direct reports
  • Experience in agriculture or the East African seed sector preferred but not strictly required
  • Enjoy collaborating, strong in negotiation and an organized approach to work
  • Fluent English is required
  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree

PREFERRED START DATE

Due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, start dates can vary significantly by role. We are adapting rapidly to Covid-19 and most of our team is now working remotely. Given the changing environment, we will appreciate your flexibility in confirming a start date.

Kigali, Rwanda with up to 25% travel in East Africa
