Job description

– Reporting to DG & has following responsibilities:
– Coordination of genetic resource management activities.
– Designing and overseeing activities of genetic resource management
– Lead planning and overseeing genetic resource management activities
– Writing and publishing scientific papers and backstopping young scientists Lead and encouraging scientists to produce scientific publications in peer reviewed journals, scientific conferences, books and book chapters, and extension materials
– Lead funds mobilization and partnership, encouraging scientists participating in mobilizing financial resources through proposal writing of competitive funding for genetic resources management development
– Participating in developing and implementing the institutional workplan and budget execution of the budget approved, and institutional imihigo and performance contracts
– Backstopping and mentoring research and technical staff in genetic resource management program
– Promote inclusiveness and team spirit within program staff
– Establishing and maintaining effective collaboration with other partners (locally, regionally and internationally)
– Fostering adequate management of resources and preventing audit queries and timely responding to audit queries whenever raised
– Promote the visibility of the institution in local and international forums.
– Perform any other assignment related to genetic resources as required by the supervisor or other competent authorities

  • Fluency in Kinyarwanda, English and/or French. Knowledge of all is an added advantage

  • Having led or contributed to the production and dissemination of sixteen (16) extension materials including technical guidelines, documentary films, and other extension materials for innovations aiming to increase farmer’s production, productivity and resilience capacities

  • Having led the generation of at least one (1) innovation or technology for agriculture development

  • Having led to the writing and won at least one (1) funded project for agriculture development

  • Having led the generation of at least one (1) innovation or technology for agriculture development. Having at least eight (8) years of relevant working experience in agricultural research and/or extension

  • Having five (5) publications as first author and seven (7) publications as a co-author in a peer-reviewed journal

  • Being conversant with national and sector policies and development agenda

  • Proven experience to work with farmers and industry stakeholders in research and extension

  • Capacity in project development and resources mobilization

  • Understanding of the National and International contexts of Pulses and Oil Crops Production, Research and Development, and ability to develop a comprehensive research agenda for pulses and oil crops in line with the national strategic planning framework
