  1. Organization Overview

Research Triangle Institute (RTI) has over 30 years’ experience assisting governments, communities, and the private sector. RTI’s Sustainable Growth & Resilience (SG&R) technical unit within the International Development Group (IDG) brings together RTI experts and capabilities across food security, agriculture, energy, environment, water, governance, and economic opportunity. SG&R will leverage RTI’s experience designing and delivering multisectoral programming and technical solutions to respond to climate change, build resilience, and promote economic growth around the world. Within SG&R, the Global Food Security and Agriculture team is working to strengthen agricultural markets, engage youth and women as critical leaders of the on- and off-farm workforce, and tackle the dual burden of malnutrition around the globe.


  1. Project Description

The purpose of the Feed the Future Rwanda Hanga Akazi Activity is to address the problem of insufficient employment opportunities and limited entrepreneurial success for Rwandans. Hanga Akazi will facilitate capacity development for Rwandans – particularly women, youth, and persons with disabilities – in key technical and soft skills required to participate in a modern workforce and will catalyse new entry and growth of inclusive enterprises.

  1. Position Description

The Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) Officer will play a pivotal role in providing vital support to the GESI team for the implementation of GESI activities within HA. The GESI Officer will actively collaborate with HA colleagues across technical and administrative areas to ensure the successful integration of HA’s GESI strategy. This position involves tracking and documenting the impact of GESI in project activities and internal processes. Key responsibilities include capturing and disseminating GESI best practices and lessons learned, designing metrics and tools in collaboration with the Social Inclusion and MEL team, and reporting on GESI-related progress and success stories within HA activities and among HA partners, including grantees.  GESI Officer will be responsible for following up implementation of GESI mainstreaming endeavors in HA activities.


  1. Responsibilities of the GESI Officer include, but are not limited to:
  • Support GESI Activities: Provide essential technical support in GESI-related matters to contribute to the successful implementation of HA’s GESI strategy
  • Collaboration: Actively collaborate with HA colleagues across technical and administrative areas to ensure seamless integration and mainstreaming of GESI priorities.
  • Best Practices: Support the GESI team in capturing and disseminating GESI best practices and lessons learned to promote knowledge sharing and improve project outcomes among HA teams and partners.
  • Concept note preparation: Support GESI team to prepare concept notes and requisitions for GESI related activities.
  • GESI Capacity development: Support the GESI team to build capacity of HA team members and partners on GESI related concepts.
  • GESI Impact Tracking: Support GESI and MEL team to collect data, track and document the GESI related impact, progress and success stories within project activities and partners including grantees.
  • Reporting: Periodically report to the Social Inclusion manager on the GESI related cross-cutting elements, progress and successes within HA activities and partners including
  • Developing GESI tools: Support in developing and implementing strategies, standards, and tools to mainstream gender and social inclusion across programming and operations.


  1. Desired Qualifications, Skills and Competencies
  • Bachelor’s degree in Gender, social sciences, or a relevant field and a master’s degree in a related field is a plus.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in GESI-related roles, with a preference for experience in the private sector and similar development projects.
  • Demonstrated experience in the implementation of GESI-related projects, including capacity development and the development of GESI strategies.
  • Strong understanding of GESI principles and a strong commitment to promoting inclusion and equality.
  • Previous experience in report and concept note writing for USAID or similar donor-funded projects is an advantage.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
  • Outstanding communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and stakeholders.
  • Highly organized with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in English and Kinyarwanda is required
