Job Description

Responsible for the coordination, and oversees the implementation of Influenza and other highly pathogenic diseases surveillance/outbreak response,prevention and control in the country.
Under this mandate, he is responsible for:
– Supervising sentinel sites to ensure appropriate implementation of surveillance activities and adherence to the protocols, including provision of Feedback.
– Identifying needs and priorities for the influenza program

-conduct scientific studies and disseminating results and overseeing Influenza Publications
– Coordinating and ensuring participation in National, Regional and International meetings, conferences and fora on Avian Influenza and Pandemic Influenza prevention, control and Treatment.
– Planning, organizing and implementing intervention Activities in case of Outbreaks of Influenza and other highly pathogenic diseases.
– Managing (developing and updating) Influenza documentation and other highly pathogenic diseases including reports
– Planning, monitoring and evaluating the progress of Influenza Activities,
– Managing the budget, risks, and taking corrective measurements.
– Managing stakeholders’ communication,
-conducting capacity development and training
– Aligning the deliverables (outputs) to the influenza Surveillance system and goals.
-Establish and sustain epidemiological and virological surveillance networks for influenza and other highly pathogenic diseases in Rwanda
-contribute to data collection, analysis to provide evidence based on disease burden to guide prevention and control measures
– Delivers comprehensive evaluation of direct reports complete with development plans followed up by active coaching; ensures that staff under him/her are evaluated and developed

The Avian Influenza and other highly pathogenic Disease’s unit Director will work with National Reference laboratory division for virological and epidemiological surveillance. He/she will.

Work with partners e.g. CDC,WHO and other agencies involved in disease surveillance. Also will work with RBC/SPIU with in MOH in budget preparation,management,reporting,monthly spending plans,grant request proposal writings,continuation application,planning, formulating policies, guidelines and training for the implementation of prevention and control of disease surveillance. The unit will liaise and collaborate with the Influenza sentinel surveillance hospitals of CHUK,CHUB,Kibungo DH,Gihundwe DH,Kibagabaga DH and Ruhngeri DH.



Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in General Medicine with working experience in conducting a variety of epidemiologic, surveillance activities

    3 Years of relevant experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Public Health with working experience in conducting a variety of epidemiologic, surveillance activities

    3 Years of relevant experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Epidemiology with working experience in conducting a variety of epidemiologic, surveillance activities

    3 Years of relevant experience

  • Master’s Degree in Global Health with working experience in conducting a variety of epidemiologic, surveillance activities

    1 Year of relevant experience

  • Master’s Degree in Epidemiology with working experience in conducting a variety of epidemiologic, surveillance activities

    1 Year of relevant experience

  • Master’s Degree in Public Health relevant working experience in conducting a variety of epidemiologic, surveillance activities

    • Understanding of avian viral diseases and knowledge of the current situation and stakes related to avian influenza and poultry section
