Reporting relationship
The Boilermaker directly reports to the Maintenance Cooordinator then to the Deputy Site Manager or Drill Rig Operator/ Senior Driller.
Job summary / overview
A Boilermaker fabricates, assembles, installs, and repairs metal structures, machinery, and systems at the drilling site. They operate welding and cutting equipment to join, shape, and repair metal components based on supervisor instructions. His / her responsibilities include marking, cutting, and aligning parts, assembling structures using cranes, and following blueprints to install components like valves, gauges, and piping in tanks and vessels. S/he performs routine maintenance on boiler systems and related equipment to ensure operational efficiency. Boilermaker also tests and repairs boilers, ensuring they are watertight and pressure resistant. All tasks are performed in compliance with safety standards and site protocols. This role is essential for maintaining the structural integrity and functionality of site operations.
Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)
- Fabricate, assemble, install, and repair metal structures, machinery, and systems.
- Cut, bend, and shape metal using torches, plasma cutters, and welding equipment.
- Mark, drill, and punch metal components based on precise guidelines.
- Assemble and align structures, boilers, and pressure vessels using cranes and blueprints.
- Install and maintain components such as valves, tubes, gauges, and piping in tanks and vessels.
- Perform routine maintenance and repairs on boiler systems and related equipment.
- Test boilers to ensure they are watertight and pressure resistant.
- Repair or replace liquid and gas tanks and other metal structures.
- Operate hand tools, welding equipment, and fabrication machinery safely and efficiently.
Required Education and work experience
- A high school diploma or equivalent, followed by training in Welding Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Metal Fabrication or related technical fields or Vocational training or certification in welding, metal fabrication, or a related trade.
- Completion of an apprenticeship program from IPRC or Professional certification in welding is highly advantageous.
- Technical knowledge of reading blueprints and using metal-working tools and equipment.
- At least1 year of experience as a Boilermaker in in welding, metal fabrication, or maintenance work, industrial, construction, or drilling site environments.

Technical Proficiency:
- Skilled in operating welding equipment, cutting torches, and fabrication machinery.
- Knowledge of boiler systems, tanks, piping, pressure vessels, and related components.
- Ability to interpret blueprints, schematics, and design plans accurately.
Physical Fitness and Dexterity:
- Capable of performing physically demanding tasks, such as lifting heavy materials and working in confined or elevated spaces.
- Precision and control in operating tools in tight or awkward positions.
Attention to Detail:
- Expertise in marking, cutting, and aligning metal components with precision.
- Ability to inspect and identify cracks, weak bonds, or potential damage in welded structures for timely repairs.
Problem-Solving and Adaptability:
- Skilled in identifying and repairing defects in metal structures or equipment.
- Ability to design, replicate, or adapt fabrication processes for varied equipment and materials.
Safety Awareness:
- Strong understanding of workplace safety protocols, including handling high-heat tools and hazardous materials.
- Ability to identify and mitigate potential risks and hazards during operations.
Organizational Skills:
- Efficient in managing time, tools, and materials to meet deadlines and maintain workflow.
Communication and Collaboration:
- Proficient in English to communicate with team members, follow instructions, and interpret design plans.
- Strong teamwork skills to coordinate effectively with supervisors, engineers, and site workers.
Independence and Decision-Making:
- Capable of analyzing situations and making informed decisions independently when needed.
