The student body will comprise two halves, with a portion selected through a rigorous assessment and funded by appropriate scholarships (plus-STEM stream), and the remainder consisting of students from across Africa pursuing the IB Diploma with their families financing the education. Seeking candidacy as an IB World School, Ntare Louisenlund School plans to offer the IB Middle Years Programme and Diploma Programme.

Your challenge and responsibilities:
Ntare Louisenlund School is seeking a boarding school counselor, you play a crucial role in the holistic development and well-being of students living away from home. The boarding school counsellor will provide emotional support, guidance, and counseling services to students to help them navigate academic, personal, social, and behavioural challenges. Working closely with students, parents, faculty, and staff, you’ll ensure a supportive and nurturing environment conducive to academic success and personal growth. The anticipated start date will be 01/09/2024. The boarding school counselor reports directly to the Middle School Principal and Deputy Head Your Main Responsibilities:
Counseling Services:
- Provide individual and group counseling sessions to students dealing with personal issues, academic challenges, homesickness, relationships, and emotional difficulties.
- Conduct crisis intervention and support during emergencies or critical incidents affecting students.
- Collaborate with academic advisors and teachers to support students’ academic progress and address any learning or behavioral issues.
Personal Development:
- Develop and implement programs that promote personal growth, resilience, and self-awareness among students.
- Organize workshops, seminars, and awareness campaigns on topics such as stress management, mental health awareness, peer relationships, and study
Student Support:
- Serve as a mentor and advocate for students, helping them navigate the boarding school environment and develop life skills.
- Assist students in adapting to the school’s culture and fostering a sense of belonging within the community.
- Address behavioral issues through counseling, mediation, and disciplinary interventions when necessary.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Work collaboratively with parents, teachers, administrators, and healthcare professionals to ensure a comprehensive support network for students.
- Communicate regularly with parents regarding students’ progress, challenges, and achievements.
- Participate in faculty meetings, student support team meetings, and professional development activities to stay informed and contribute to school policies and practices.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate and confidential records of counseling sessions, assessments, and interventions.
- Prepare reports and assessments of students’ progress, behavioral concerns, and counseling outcomes as needed.

Your Profile:
- Degree in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field.
- State licensure or certification as a counselor (where applicable).
- Previous experience in counseling, preferably in an educational or boarding school setting.
- Strong understanding of adolescent development, mental health issues, and counseling techniques.
- Working experience in a similar role of at least 5 years.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
- Empathy, patience, and a genuine interest in supporting students’ well-being and personal growth.
