Program Summary:

CHAI is collaborating with the Maternal, Child, and Community Health (MCCH) Division in the Rwanda Biomedical Center (RBC) to support the implementation of comprehensive Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) services with emphasis on safe medical abortion within the legal framework.

Underlying CHAI’s approach is the development of effective, government-led management systems that serve as the backbone towards facilitating program implementation, supports transition, and enables government to sustain progress, while also providing for the continued growth and evolution of a country’s SRHR program.

Position Overview:

CHAI will provide direct technical assistance (TA) to MOH/RBC/MCCH to improve and establish the full scope of systems and processes required for government to optimize reproductive health and rights product in-country by providing leadership across the full spectrum of SRHR.

CHAI is seeking a highly motivated individual to provide ongoing technical support to MOH on the best-practice government led SRHR program.

Due to the nature of the work, the incumbent will be seconded to MCCH, and travel to the field as needed.

The position will run from October 2021 to December 2022.

Key Responsibilities

The SRH analyst will be responsible of   the following functions:

  • Provide overall technical assistance for implementation of comprehensive abortion services and ensure all implemented activities follow Rwanda Ministry of Health goals and objectives.
  • Under the supervision of the MCCH Manager, contribute to the development/update of Comprehensive Abortion Care (CAC) national policy, strategies, guidelines, training manual, and services delivery tools.
  • Support the planning of training for health care providers in SRHR especially CAC.
  • Provide regular support, mentorship, and supervision on CAC to health care providers at health facility level.
  • Provide technical assistance in the integration of safe abortion within the legal framework in routine care.
  • Provide support for safe abortion data collection, data review, cleaning, and data analysis and collaborate with the MoH M&E team in safe abortion reporting activities.
  • Participate in the preparation of CAC related program reports, and technical briefs and share periodic reports with supervisors.
  • Conduct supportive supervision, regular data quality assessments on CAC program indicators, and participate in routine data quality review at health facilities/service delivery level.
  • Closely follow up on all reported abortion-related services provision issues for prompt action as appropriate.
  • Assess safe abortion-related capacities and practices in hospitals, and recommend improvements as needed.
  • Represent CHAI in SRHR/Abortion related technical working groups as needed.

Education and qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Health or related field such as Social Sciences.
  • At least 3 years of experience in Maternal health related field.
  • At least 3 years of working experience in a demanding result driven environment, with increasing levels of responsibility in the public sector and/or private sector.
  • Interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to build strong professional relationships with a range of stakeholders in a challenging, multi-cultural environment.
  • Demonstrated capacity to synthesize data into an effective presentation of results for a variety of audiences.
  • Excellent Microsoft Excel skills required, including experience using Excel for quantitative analyses or costing.
  • Proven ability to operate independently, multitask, and set and achieve ambitious targets with limited guidance.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
