Advert – District Coordinator

About the Role:

Save the Children (SC) is the world’s largest independent child rights organization, underpinned by a vision of a world in which every child attains the right to survival, protection, development and participation. Our mission to inspire breakthroughs in the way the world treats children, and to achieve immediate and lasting change in their lives.

District coordinator will oversee the quality and timely activities taking place in the districts allocated to him/her including those delivered by partners. Each Coordinator will coordinate the implementation of activities in 10 districts, and supervise the district Officers responsible for each district to ensure quality work. They will represent the project within the assigned 10 districts to build and maintain strong working relationships with local education authorities, and ensure the work plan is reflected in the districts’ plans.


Qualifications and experience 

  • Bachelor’s degree in education or related discipline with at least 5 years of experience in technical and management roles on education improvement programs.
  • Proven experience of at least 5 years in working with district and or provincial officials in improving Quality of Education in Basic Education.
  • Proven experience in managing a team implementing project activities and managing a budget.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing training materials, organizing and conducting trainings.
  • Demonstrated experience in implementing the National Projects and working with more than two implementing partners.
  • Commitment to inclusive programming that encourages full participation of individuals regardless of gender, disability status or other marginalized status.
  • Proven experience in working with all categories of children, girls and boys, children with and without disabilities and other children with different Special needs.
  • Experience in working with children, community members, local leaders and school leaders.
  • Highly developed relationship building and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent planning, management and coordination skills, with the ability to organise a workload comprised of varying and changing tasks and responsibilities.
  • Ability to liaise with a diverse range of people, stakeholders and beneficiaries.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and Ikinyarwanda.
  • Patient, adaptable, flexible, able to improvise and remain responsive and communicate clearly and effectively under pressure.
  • Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines.
  • Attention to detail, strong analytical, problem-solving, financial skills and public speaking skills.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Computer literate. (Ms Word, Excel, Power Point, Internet Explorer).
  • Commitment to Save the Children’s mission and values.
  • Initiative, flexibility and ability to work independently as well as in a team.
  • High levels of self-motivation and initiative.
  • Ownership and accountability of own work.
  • High levels of confidentially and integrity.

CHILD SAFEGUARDING: 

This position is on Child Safeguarding- Level 3:  The post holder will have contact with children and/or young people either frequently (e.g. once a week or more) or intensively (e.g. four days in one month or more or overnight) because they work country programs. Or are visiting country programs; or because they are responsible for implementing the police checking/vetting process staff.
