Cultural Program Officer at the Goethe-Institut Rwanda

The Goethe-Institut is the globally active cultural institute of the Federal Republic of Germany. We promote knowledge of the German language abroad and foster international cultural cooperation. In addition, we convey a comprehensive image of Germany by providing information about cultural, social and political life.


We are looking for a dedicated colleague to start as soon as possible. The position is initially limited to one year, with the option to extend for another year.

As a Program Officer in the Cultural Program Department of the GoetheInstitut Rwanda, your main responsibilities will include:

  • Planning, preparation and implementation of events in the cultural field
  • Project-related budget monitoring and accounting
  • Project-related reporting and evaluation
  • Project-related contract agreements
  • Public relations and compilation of information and materials for programs
  • Technical and organizational preparation and follow-up of tours and events
  • Information and communication about the cultural program department and cultural liaison work of the Goethe-Institut
  • Assumption of various tasks from other areas, e.g. administrative tasks such as preparation of accounting documents, preparation of contracts, etc.
  • Participation in the conception of program work; maintaining contact with partners; support for artists and lecturers; communication with headquarters and the Regional Institute


Requirements:

  • University degree in humanities or arts or cultural studies or comparable qualifications
  • Experience in writing project proposals and project reports, as well as in project management
  • Experience in cultural management (at least 18 months) desirable
  • Formal work experience desirable
  • Sound knowledge of the Rwandan cultural scene and current discourses
  • Very good knowledge of online public relations and social media
  • Confident command of all common office software (Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams, Zoom)
  • Coordination and organizational skills
  • High social and intercultural competence, as well as a high ability to work under pressure
  • Flexibility regarding work arrangements, willingness to work evenings and weekends
  • Very good knowledge of English
  • German language skills desirable; willingness to improve German language skills
  • Language skills in Kinyarwanda and French advantageous
