Job Description
– Reporting to the Seed and Fertilizers Division Manager, the Roots, Tubers and Banana Seeds Technician has the following functions:
– Coordinating and implementing Root, Tubers and Banana seed production activities in RAB stations and private sector;
– Actively participate in the development of joint annual plans for the production and supply of adequate seed for the different categories of seed for Root, Tubers and Banana Crops in the country;
– Ensure adequate planning, timely requisition and procurement of materials and equipment required to support the activities of seed production;
– Ensure that all the required materials, tools and equipment are timely put in place and undertake the implementation of plans for EGS seeds production;
– Contribute to the development of knowledge tools and information systems on seed, Root, Tubers and Banana Crops varieties and seed-related emergency assistance;
– Conduct training and mentoring of Root, Tubers and Banana seed producers in new techniques, environmental considerations and other productivity-related areas all aimed at production of quality and quantity seeds.
– Develop and disseminate guidelines that promote good practice and improved local production Roots, Tubers and Banana seeds;
– Mobilize local companies and seed multipliers to invest in seeds production;
– Ensure regular follow-up, monitoring and provision of technical support to local private producers for Root, Tubers and Banana Crop seeds;
– Follow- up and monitor both on-station and on-farm seed multiplication activities to continuously measure and report progress;
– Ensure the implementation of activities, projects and assets management that promote the delivery of adequate quality seed in the country and that public finances and goods are well managed;
– Undertaking any other duties as assigned by the supervisor and other relevant authorities.
– Preparation of weekly, quarterly, annual and other reports concerning Roots, Tubers and Banana seed production activities as may be required;
