Job title: Chief Executive
SONARWA General Insurance Company Limited (SONARWA GI) is a Rwandan Insurer, providing General insurance services in Rwanda. The company offers a wide range of General insurance products including but not limited to Motor Insurance, Marine Cargo Insurance, Computer and Electronic Equipment Insurance, Livestock, Machinery Breakdown Insurance, Natural Disaster, Burglary Insurance, Fire insurance etc.

The Company is seeking to recruit a dynamic and visionary leader to join its winning team as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) reporting to the Board of Directors.
The Chief Executive officer will be responsible for efficient running of the company’s business and directing the activities of the company towards achievement of its strategic goals and objectives. The position holder will provide the overall leadership and advice to the senior management team.
Main responsibilities of the job;
- Lead the executive management of Sonarwa’s business, consistent with the strategy and commercial objectives agreed by the Board;
- Lead and oversee the implementation of Sonarwa ’s long and short term plans in accordance with its approved strategy
- Plan and direct the company’s activities to achieve the stated/agreed targets and standards for performance
- Prepare regular and periodic reports to the board that provide a strategic direction and qualitative assessment on the achievement of the planned goals
- Drives implementation of policies and recommendations made by the board.
- Report to shareholders on the organisational plans and performance
- Oversees effective internal controls and management information systems and ensure they are in place to support the company’s operations
- Ensure that Sonarwa has appropriate systems to enable it to conduct its activities efficiently, effectively, lawfully and ethically
- Serve as the primary spokesperson and representative for Sonarwa and ensure that the organization and its mission, programs, and services are consistently presented in a strong, positive image to relevant stakeholders
- Ensure that the Directors are properly informed and that sufficient information is provided to the Board to enable the Directors to form appropriate judgments
- Oversees that Sonarwa maintains high standards of corporate citizenship and social responsibility in all environments in which it operates
- Monitor the performance of each department against targets set and monitors the company’s overall performance
- Oversees the preparation of company budgets for presentation to the Board
- Conduct periodic review to ensure overall expenditure is within budget
- Investigates reasons for budget variance and establish ways to reduce the variance
- Recruit, select and develop executive team members to ensure that Sonarwa GI has the right competence to drive the achievement of its strategic objectives.
- Maintain and develop the company’s culture, values and reputation to its markets and with all staff, customers, suppliers, partners and regulatory officials.
- Hold a Master’s degree in a Business-related field from a recognized high learning institution;
- Possession of a professional qualification (s) in Insurance or Accounting sciences, (ACII, CFA, CPA or ACCA) is an added advantage;
- Have experience of not less than Ten (10) years of relevant work experience in financial institutions with at least Five (5) years served in the senior management position;
- Possess strong knowledge of the insurance industry and a proven track record in business growth;
- Have thorough understanding of financial management, regulatory compliance, board management and demonstrable commercial and investment acumen;
