Job Description
Reporting to the Roots and Tubers Program Coordinator, the Roots & Tubers Innovation and Tech Transfer Research Technician Grade II has the following responsibilities:
– Assist scientists in their regular activities in scientific research;
– Implement field trials/laboratory protocols for roots and tubers crops to produce reliable and accurate data to support scientific investigations;
– Actively participate in data collection, analysis, interpretation and timely reporting of research results;
– Guide and train farmers on the identification and management techniques of biotic and abiotic stresses of roots and tubers crops.
– Prepare specifications for procurement of machines/ laboratory equipment required for conducting research activities on roots and tubers crops.
– Prepare technical reports for research and technology transfer activities.
– Perform general nursery duties for horticultural crops
– Liaise with extension service providers in conducting on-farm technology verification trials, demonstrations and technology dissemination;
– Train students, interns and new scientists on field plot; techniques and practices and/or laboratory practices.
– Develop, implement and coordinate pluralistic extension and service delivery systems to meet needs of different actors along roots and tubers crops value chains.
– Disseminate technologies, innovations, knowledge and skills to farmers and other stakeholders along the roots and tubers crops value chains through various approaches including
technical guidelines, extension/training materials, documentary films, demonstration
plots, media outreach, trainings, etc.
– Ensure the adequate management of resources under his or her responsibilities for institution clean reports.
– Ensure a good budget execution and implementation of institution performance.
– Undertake other duties as assigned by the Program Coordinator and other RAB Senior Managers.
