Job Description
Report to the Veterinary services program Coordinator/Veterinary Laboratory Manager senior research technician with the following responsibilities:
– Conduct research in Pathology Diagnosis
– Collaborate with other researchers in their regular activities namely collection of raw materials, laboratory work and in writing reports and publications.
– Participate in meetings, seminars, conferences relevant to field of research and bring visibility of institute in local and international forums.
– Collecting and receiving samples for Pathology analysis.
– Preparing materials and implementing sampling; processing and storage of animal samples in accordance with required laboratory procedure for pathogen analysis.
– Collecting and receiving dead animals for necropsy
– Analyzing samples and presenting results on the disease pathogen on interest.
– Carrying out necropsy examination on animals to determine cause of death
– Prepare histopathology sections from dead animal tissues for confirmatory specific changes due to the disease in question
– Carry out histopathology examination and make reports for the veterinarian
– Write and update standard operation procedures for carrying out necropsy and histopathology protocols
– Submitting results for scientific interpretation and reporting to Veterinary Laboratory Manager Senior Research Technician.
– Provide feedback to the research system about animal health problems which need urgent solutions
– Assist in training of university students on internship on autopsy and histopathology
– Write and contribute to scientific publications on his/her research results in accordance with prescribed policy published in force;
– Implementing regular maintenance and repairs of laboratory equipment and infrastructure
– Identify infrastructure and equipment required for the modernization of research and laboratory testing.
– Prepare extension messages on diseases to the farmers. (Spot radio, Meetings, seminars, booklet)
– Performing any other duties assigned by supervisor
– Prepare weekly, monthly, a quarterly and annual report on research activities carried out.
