Job description

Reporting to the Head of Land Husbandry, Irrigation Innovation and Technology Transfer Department, the Analytical Laboratory for water, soil and plant Management Program Coordinator has the following responsibilities:
– Lead and Coordinate the development of protocols related to water, soil and plant
– Lead and Coordinate the calibration of laboratory equipment for quality insurances and standards of produced results
– Lead and coordinate the planning of activities to be carried out by Water, Soil and plant laboratory
– Lead and coordinate the production activities of the Laboratory
– Ensure a clean Audit in activities carried by the Water, Soil and plant laboratory
– Coordinate, review and submit the weekly, quarterly and annual reports of the Unit
– Lead the mentorship for junior scientists in conception, planning, monitoring and evaluation of research on water, soil and plant analysis
– Working with the Communication Unit to increase awareness and visibility of the Institution through the work done the Analytical laboratory for Water, soil and plant by various
communication tools.
– Lead in identification of national and regional agriculture (as far as Water, Soil, Plant analysis are concerned) priorities at national and regional level
– Lead in determining strategies for new and existing systems for Water, Soil, Plant analysis
– Ensure production of communication / dissemination materials (radio message, leaflets, policy briefs)
– Ensure promotion and adoption of technologies related to Water, Soil, Plant analysis through implementation of pilot projects and demonstration plots and encourage involvement of the
private sector to actively participate in provision of technology
– Advise the leadership in issues related to water, soil, and plant analysis.
– Establish and maintain effective collaboration with other researchers, locally, regionally and internationally; and other programmes
– Ensure a clean Audit in activities carried out in the programme.
– Participate in meetings, seminars, conferences relevant to field of environment (water, soil, and plant) management and bring visibility of RAB in local and international for a
– Supervise overall sector activities related to water, soil, and plant analysis and promote/participate in coordination meetings to be held with donors, implementing partners and line
departments
– Analyze and publish research findings produced under Analytical Lab for Water, Soil and plant
– Participating in developing and implementing the institutional work plan and budget execution of the budget approved, and institutional imihigo and performance contracts
– Ensure effective and efficient management of resources and assets under his responsibilities
– Undertake other duties as assigned by the Head of Department or other RAB Senior Managers.

  • PhD in Agriculture Sciences

  • PhD in Soil Chemistry

  • PHD in Analytical chemistry

    Experience: 8

  • Having led the writing and won 1 project/grant for agricultural development

  • Having led the generation of at least (1) innovation/technology for agricultural development

  • Having authored five (5) publications as first author and seven (7) publications as a co-author in peer-reviewed journal

  • Having led or contributed to the production and dissemination of sixteen (16) extension materials including technical guidelines, documentary films, and other extension materials for innovations aiming to increase farmers’ production, productivity and resilience capacitie

  • Being conversant with national and sector policies and development agenda

  • Proven experience to work with farmers and industry stakeholders in research and extension

  • Capacity in project development and resources mobilization

  • Extensive understanding of the National and International context of Research for Development and ability to develop a comprehensive research agenda for the analytical laboratory program in line with the national strategic planning framework
