Kepler, through a partnership with Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU), has enrolled more than 1,000 students across our campuses in Kigali and the Kiziba refugee camp in Western Rwanda.
We have entered into a dynamic time at Kepler. Over the next few months, Kepler hopes to become locally accredited in Rwanda through Kepler College and we are expanding our academic offerings and programs in Rwanda and Ethiopia.
Job summary
Kepler is looking for a competent student/graduate to serve as a Refugee College Counselor Fellow at the Kepler Kiziba Campus. This is a full-time position that will last one year with the possibility of extension. The Kiziba’s Refugee College Counselor Fellow’s role will be to support students with educational guidance, to create programs to help refugee students to excel in academics, to assist the humanitarian team at Kepler in implementing initiatives for the successful education of refugee students at our campus in Kiziba Refugee Camp, and to support the careers staff in supporting refugee students.
The Fellows positions at Kepler are designed as an opportunity for recent or upcoming graduates to grow professionally by gaining meaningful work experience while supporting Kepler programming. Fellows will be provided with significant support from their managers and other team members as well as opportunities for professional development. After the fellowship year is complete, Fellows should be confident professionals with competitive skills and resumes to continue their careers, whether at Kepler or an external organization.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide educational guidance for students in the program; explain the model and be there as a sounding board and student advocate
- Help students problem-solve when they encounter challenges and make referrals to other staffs or services as needed
- Conduct one on one advising sessions, small groups and scholarship workshops with students
- Collaborate with Kepler academic advisors and other departments to support students to recognize and achieve their educational goals
- Maintain accurate and updated records of students’ progress and challenges
- Discuss links between education and employment opportunities with students
- Assist students in setting employment goals-both for internships and post-graduation
- Prepare monthly reports that include data, a narrative history of student success, and development phases, recommendations for program improvement, and partner/student success.
- Work on the diversity, equity and inclusion issues in the Kepler community
- Work on issues related to transitions to workplace for students and graduates
- Participate in the Humanitarian Team meetings
- Participate in meetings with partners for advocating for refugees’ access to tertiary education
- Represent Kepler at external events and advocating for refugee rights and opportunities
- Work with the Kepler Kiziba Student Guild Association (SGA) to organize seminars, workshops, and events that would expose refugee students to the world outside the Kiziba Refugee Camp
- Take responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor
Qualifications, skills and experience needed
- Have earned more than 90 competencies in BA and in good academic standing (must be maintained throughout the job)
- Experience with working with refugee students either in internships or work-study positions
- Ability to use online conferencing tools
- Organized, Extreme attention to detail, and good at time and task management
- Excellent with using Google Products (creating and uploading files and folders, sharing files folders, google forms, etc.)
- Excellent communication skills (written and oral) and highly adaptable technology skills
- Demonstrated knowledge of refugee rights, laws, and methods of advocacy

Job Summary
Kepler is hiring an Iteme Fellow to support the implementation of our unique tertiary education and career preparation program for secondary school graduates from refugee and host communities. The Fellow will be in charge of a specific Iteme site and manage the academic, administrative and logistical aspects. The Fellow will supervise Iteme interns, assess the curriculum & classes, control logistics, implement innovative ways to support Iteme students, liaise with partners, and other related duties on-site.
The Fellow will work closely with the Kepler Humanitarian Team. Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead assigned Iteme site
- Hire, train, and supervise interns
- Build and strengthen our partnerships with on-site organizations/programs
- Assess the curriculum, ensuring all class materials are available and easily accessible to both students and interns
- Observe classes to ensure students are getting needed support with tablets/class resources
- Provide feedback and coaching to interns, including co-teaching when needed
- Implement the evaluation method and provide feedback to improve the program
- Innovate new ways of supporting Iteme students, including engaging relevant community members
- Conduct field research to identify opportunities available for refugees and marginalized youth
- Prepare and oversee Iteme admissions at assigned site
- Produce accurate and timely reports
- Collect and organize data effectively
- Develop a budget and operating plan for the program in collaboration with the Preparation Programs Manager and finance team
- Coordinate and run workshops/events (internal and external)
- Manage tablets and other resources
- Take full responsibility and ownership of the program at your site
- Run the program remotely if needed: Provide adequate support to both interns and students, make sure that resources are easily accessible to students, and conduct frequent check-ins with interns
- Collect and report accurate finance documents on time
- Complete other tasks assigned by the supervisor
Qualifications, skills and experience needed:
- Have met all graduation requirements
- Ability to communicate in Kinyarwanda and fluent in English
- Ability to effectively lead a team
- Experience with operational activities
- Have worked as an Iteme/ remediation program intern or Kepler TA
- Demonstrated professionalism and good working ethics
- Ability to work under pressure and tackle challenges without any supervision
- Organized, Extreme attention to detail, and good at time and task management
- Excellent with using Google Products (creating and uploading files and folders, sharing files folders, google forms, etc.)
- Excellent communication skills (written and oral) and highly adaptable technology skills
- Comfortable living and working in a rural area
