International students preferring the US for their higher and quality education can now apply for the enormous Merit Scholarships offered by the Augsburg University for the current academic year. The applications are acceptable from incoming students applying for any bachelor’s degree at the campus.

Augsburg University will distribute the awards to students with high academic records. According to students’ needs and qualifications, there are four scholarships that will assist them in covering up various educational purposes.

Augsburg University

Augsburg University, located in Minneapolis, Minnesota, is a private liberal arts college. It is an Evangelical Lutheran Church in America congregation. Augsburg Seminary was founded in 1869 as a Norwegian-American Lutheran seminary. Approximately 3,000 undergraduate and 800 graduate students are now enrolled at the university. The university is known for its emphasis on service learning; volunteering in the community is an instructional strategy and a required part of a student’s coursework.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible to apply for the scholarship, the applicant must meet the following requirements

  • The candidate must be an international student.
  • Scholarship holders must be enrolled full time in the day program working towards their first bachelor’s degree and can only receive one of the following merit scholarships:
  • Regents’ Scholarship open for new first-year students of high academic achievement who begin in the fall semester. This grant is awarded based on high school GPA and ACT/SAT scores
  • The honors scholarship recognizes first-year students of exceptional academic ability with solid evidence of leadership potential.
  • Augsburg Legacy Scholarship is for first-year students who are children or spouses of Augsburg graduates, siblings of current Augsburg students, or children or spouses of current Lutheran pastors.
  • The College Access Program Scholarship recognizes first-year students who graduated from high school in good standing and currently participate in a college readiness program such as College Possible, TRiO, or AVID.

The scholarship will be awarded as follows:

  • Regents’ Scholarship- $18,000 – $26,000 per year
  • Honors Scholarship- $28,000 per year
  • Augsburg Legacy Scholarship- $18,000 per year
  • College Access Program Scholarship- $18,000 per year
  • These scholarships will be renewable for up to 4 years.

Candidates must take the following steps to apply for these scholarships:

The following scholarships are awarded at the admission point based on information provided in the application. Aspirants will be notified of their scholarship award on their acceptance letter. Students are only required to fill out an admission application to the university to pursue any bachelor’s degree

Entry Requirements

  • Aspirant must meet the general country or study curriculum entry requirement.
  • You must demonstrate English language skills and meet the general admission criteria following the country or curriculum you studied.
  • The average high school GPA of the admitted freshman class at Augsburg College was 3.27 on the 4.0 scale, indicating that primarily B students are accepted and ultimately attend.

Visa Requirements

Please apply for a J-1 visa well in advance of your intended trip to the United States. At some US embassies and consulates, obtaining a non-immigrant visa can take several months. Citizens of all countries (except Canada) must have a J-1 visa to enter the United States. All visa applicants must now make a personal appointment for an interview. Please keep in mind that it may take a few weeks to schedule an appointment, so you should initiate your visa application as early as possible.
