Gulf Hotel is recruiting a professional waiters/waitress to serve its clients in this busy hotel.

Location: Kigali

Key Responsibilities

  • Greet and escort customers to their tables
  • Present menu and provide detailed information when asked (e.g., about beverages and food portions, ingredients, or potential food allergies)
  • Prepare tables by setting up linens, silverware, and glasses
  • Inform customers about the day’s specials
  • Offer menu recommendations upon request
  • Up-sell additional products when appropriate
  • Take accurate food and drinks orders, using a POS ordering software, order slips, or by memorization
  • Communicate order details to the Kitchen Staff
  • Serve food and drink orders
  • Check dishes and kitchenware for cleanliness and presentation and report any problems
  • Arrange table settings and maintain a tidy dining area
  • Deliver checks and collect bill payments
  • Carry dirty plates, glasses and silverware to kitchen for cleaning
  • Meet with bar and restaurant staff to review daily specials, changes on the menu and service specifications for reservations (e.g., parties)
  • Follow all relevant health department regulations
  • Provide excellent customer service to guests

Skills, Experience & Educational Requirements

You will be the right fit if you have:

  • At least Advanced (A2) Diploma in Hospitality Management from a reputable college or university in Rwanda is a requirement
  • Professional Certificate in food safety training is an added advantage
  • Fluency in English with a good knowledge of French and Swahili is essential
  • Proven 2 Years work experience as a Waiter or Waitress in a hotel, bar, or restaurant
  • Hands-on experience with cash register and ordering information system (e.g., Revel POS or Toast POS)
  • Attentiveness and patience for customers
  • Excellent presentation skills
  • Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills, with the ability to perform well in a fast-paced environment
  • Active listening and effective communication skills
  • Team spirit
  • Flexibility to work in shifts

2. Food and Beverage Manager

Overview  

Gulf Hotel is recruiting a professional Food & Beverage Manager to manage the Food & Beverage operations of this busy Hotel. The successful candidate will be dynamic, fit the culture of the hotel, and be a hands-on operator with strong guest relations as well as a sound International knowledge of Food & Beverage standards and controls. He/she will take full responsibility for the Food & Beverage Department, adhering to company policies and procedures at all times.

Ensure a courteous and efficient level of service is provided to the Guests while running a smooth Food & Beverage operation. Previous experience in Food & Beverage operations as a Food & Beverage Manager is a requirement.

Key Responsibilities:

 As Food & Beverage Manager you will be responsible for:

  • effective operations of the Restaurant and a Bar,
  • responsible for facilitating meeting, conferences and events at our restaurant
  • responsible for kitchen provision and controlling effectively,
  • enforce company standards in maintain food and beverage cost
  • responsible for improvement and maintaining of sales, inventories, and budgets,
  • ensure health, hygiene and safety are effectively maintained
  • ensure that customer complaints are properly handled and effectively eliminated
  • coordinate all food and beverage operations

Skills, Experience & Educational Requirements

Education:

  • A diploma from a reputable international Catering college or Hotel School is required but not essential.
  • Hospitality related Degree or Diploma in Hospitality Management is required but not essential, and a Bachelor’s degree is an advantage.

Experience:

  • A minimum of 5 years work experience in Food & Beverage management is required.
  • Experience in running large scale multi-outlet venues.
  • Good financial acumen.
  • Advanced problem-solving skills & the ability to think on their feet.
  • The ability to effectively communicate to colleagues across all levels within the business.
  • Outstanding food & beverage knowledge.
  • Excellent personal presentation.

 Languages:

  • Must possess excellent working knowledge of English language (both verbal and written) to facilitate the business communication process. fluency in a second language is an advantage. •

Grooming:

  • Applicant must maintain a neat, clean, and well-groomed appearance as per required standard

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Plan and direct the functions of administration and planning of the Food and Beverage Department to meet the daily needs of operation.
  • Clearly describe, assign, and delegate responsibility and authority for the operation of the various food and beverage departments, such as restaurants, bar, kitchen etc.
  • Control, supervision, and adherence of Bar and restaurant practices from all staff within the Bar and restaurant
  • Develop, implement, and monitor schedules for the operation of all restaurant and bar to achieve a profitable result.
  • Participate with the executive chef and catering managers in the creation of attractive and merchandising menus designed to attract a predetermined customer market.
  • Implement effective control of food, beverage, and labour costs
  • Regularly review and evaluate the degree of customer acceptance of the individual restaurant service.
  • Recommend to management new operating and marketing policies whenever declining or constant sales imply dissatisfaction by the customers, a material change in the make-up of the customer market, or a change in the competitive environment.
  • Develop operating tools necessary and incidental to modern management principles, i.e., budgeting, forecasting purchase specifications, recipes, portion specifications, menu abstracts, food production control, job descriptions, etc.
  • Continuously evaluate the performance and encourage improvement of the personnel in the food and beverage department.
  • Plan and administer a training and development program within the department which will provide well-trained employees at all levels and permit advancement for those persons qualified and interested in career development.

 Specific Job Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Financial:

To continuously seek ways to assist the Outlet management maximizes their revenues and profits

To provide ideas and suggestions to improve sales

Operational:

  • Clearly describe, assign and delegate responsibility and authority for the operation of the various food and beverage sub-departments such as bar and restaurant
  • To handle customers and employee inquiries in a courteous and efficient manner and solve complaints or problems personally, assure follow up with customers and report to Bar and restaurant general Manager
  • To personally and frequently verify that customers in bar and restaurant are receiving the best possible service
  • To maintain the bar and restaurant key customers database and to follow up with upcoming birthdays, anniversaries, etc.

Specifically, in Food and beverages:

  • To be fully aware and keep abreast of the latest trends in local beverage market and to develop Beverage range for the bar and restaurant
  • To frequently verify that offers are prepared and served according to recipe
  • To develop marketing and communication plan for various Food and Beverage promotions within the hotel
  • To prepare a calendar of Food and Beverages events/ activities.
  • To ensure that the Bar and restaurant staff projects a warm, professional and welcome image
  • To assist in the building of an efficient team of employees through Multi Skilling, Multi-Tasking, and flexible scheduling and by taking an active interest in their welfare, safety, and development
  • To ensure that all employees provide a courteous and professional service at all times
  • To ensure that all employees have a complete understanding of and adhere to the Bar and restaurant’s Rules & Regulations and adhere to the bar and restaurant’s policy relating to Fire, Hygiene, Health and Safety
  • To maintain a good rapport and working relationship with all staff
  • To monitor service of food and beverage standards
  • To project at all times a positive and motivated attitude and exercise self-control
  • To maintain a high standard of personal appearance and hygiene at all times

  • To respond to any changes in the Food & Beverage Department function as dictated by the industry and the company.
