Job Description- Clinical Counsellor/Clinical Psychologist
Overview
Solid Minds is a private, independent outpatient mental health clinic located in Kigali, Rwanda. We provide excellent, evidence-based psychological services to individuals, couples, families, and children. We also have employee assistance and student wellness programs with local and international organizations and universities to providing trainings, consultations, and in-person therapy and teletherapy. Our current client base is approximately half African/Rwandan, half European/American. As we serve a very diverse clientele, an openness to exploring the roles of culture, background, and racial identity in clinical practice is essential to joining our team.
We’re seeking an experienced clinician who is eager to make a difference in patients’ lives and contribute to our growing practice. The right person for this position will be comfortable managing a varied caseload of individual and family in-person therapy and teletherapy, group therapy, and organizing and facilitating community outreach and trainings.
Objectives of this Role
- Provide exemplary clinical services to patients and families utilizing evidence-based therapeutic practices
- Collaborate as a member of a multidisciplinary, integrated team
- Establish a strong therapeutic alliance while maintaining professional boundaries and respecting confidentiality
- Contribute to the growth of our practice and organization
Responsibilities
- Assess, diagnose, and provide appropriate therapy consistent with the highest international standards of care
- Participate in regular supervision of counseling cases and procedures and proactively engage with supervisors
- Design and deliver training and supervision sessions on a variety of topics connected to mental health and wellness for partner organizations
- Provide timely and accurate clinical and financial documentation
- Perform all duties in a manner consistent with the Ethical Principles of Psychologists and the Code of Conduct of Solid Minds.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Master’s degree (MA, MS) in Clinical Psychology or a similar field
- 3-5 years’ experience in providing psychotherapy in a supervised and licensed setting
- Current Registration with the Rwanda Allied Health Professionals Council or Rwanda Psychological Society (or have the credentials/ability to obtain this before start date)
- Demonstrated understanding of and ability to provide person-centered care
- Verifiable and certified training in evidence-based practices such as CBT, Solution-Focused Therapy, Motivational Interviewing
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in English
- Commitment to lifelong learning as a clinician
- A high level of compassion and empathy
- An openness to exploring the roles of culture, background, and racial identity in clinical practice
- A clear understanding of and commitment to professional and personal boundaries in a small community practice
- Ability to work creatively and independently
- Proficient in online/remote therapy and documentation platforms
Preferred Qualifications
- Flexibility, both in work hours and duties performed
- Verifiable and certified training in advanced evidence-based practices such as DBT, EMDR or other evidence-based trauma interventions
- Experience in group and workshop facilitation
- Experience providing training and supervision
- Experience of conducting teletherapy
- Proven track record of adapting to fast-changing environments with an entrepreneurial spirit
- Ability to conduct therapy in French, Kinyarwanda, and/or KiSwahili
- If an international clinician licensed to practice independently as a psychotherapist in passport country
Compensation
We currently operate on a fee-for-service basis, and we are currently unable to offer relocation packages. Compensation commensurate with experience and capabilities.
